GoldenEye: Source Beta 3

I played beta 1 when it first came out but never since.

Gonna download and have a game. Beta 3 looks good.

How have they never had this mod shut down?
 
Why would it be shutdown? Half Life had two mods based on GoldenEye as far as i remember.
I Am unaware of any copyright issues.
I think, as long as they do not make any profit from it, they can work on it as much as they like.

I am Wake, the PR/webmaster for GoldenEye: Source.

No, we have never been shutdown and yes as long as we remain non-profit which we will we should be ok.. but weve been away in secret devland for the past 18 months recoding the mod from scratch on Orange Box. We are very happy with the feel of this beta. In fact a lot of us feel it rivals commerical titles as far as rounded gameplay experience and certainly nice replay value.

Fair warned, its much different than beta 1. Not only is it basically bug free and on the new engine, but the goldeneye mechanics have been instilled much greater into the driving force behind gameplay with regard to some forms of weapon behaviour and damage values/weaponsets.

Beta is out in a little under 48 hours from now!

Our site page will be a low impact one 24 hours from the release until a day or so after, in case anyone wonders why it looks bad during the release phase. Last 2 releases we got hit hard :P We hope anyone from here enjoys our mod and encourages their friends to get on board too.

I Am very much looking forward to this beta. It looks very authentic and a lot of fun.
One question, will we see Bunker in this release? I don't remember seeing it in the new trailer.

Damn you for giving me goosebumbs! The music was the first thing that caught my attention when you announced the mod a few years ago. Nostalgia oozes through my veins every time i hear the tracks.
Kudos to your music gurus! So, what about Bunker? Will it be in this release?

Little message on behalf of Team GoldenEye: Source. If you have been waiting in the wings for an update, we sprung the news just yesterday that we are releasing Patch 3.1 TONIGHT since Valves update finally fixed mods. We got the patch (which was done weeks ago) through our tester pipeline this week and it is ready.

The exact time of release is unknown, but it will be in the evening of United States EST. To get an up to the minute alert of the release time keep checking the forums through the night, OR join our steam community group (if you arent already) by which an announcement will be made from the group in STEAM.

Inform as many serverhosts and friends you know to come back and get their files up to date, and give the mod another shot. Much of the annoying issues have now been adressed and basically are cleared up. Servers still have to be smart about the configs they use. If you play a large server (20+) using some silly gameplay choices that you dont like, this is not our game at fault ; We must stress this point. We extend everyone the freedom to run servers how they like ; however we urge the playerbase that if they want "fair" and reasonable gameplay the way we designed our implementations for, to join a server hosting between 4 and 16 players maximum. It can work to have over 20 if Teamplay is enabled! (not mwgg does not work on teamplay so you must remove from the gameplaycycle.txt for team based servers)

There are still going to be a few servers that host 32 with LTK, and instead of complain that this is somehow our fault and the game sucks, just join a different server with a smaller playercap! We will never hardcode a playercap. This way its up to servers and players to make common sense choices based on their personal taste, and we hope that you do and respect everyone around you. Fun is the overriding thing we are trying to promote :) Find your favourite gameplay situations and have all the fun on those servers you want.

If there is a server you think is making smart choices and creating cool atmosphere for players, yet it isnt getting traffic because its smaller, shoot me a PM (wake[of]thebunt) on moddb and I will check out the server, and if I agree will showcase it in some media posts. So it gets attention and traffic for being a great example to serverhosts.

wow the soundtrack is amazing....just downloaded

and i'm glad you guy moved it over the the TF2/Portal/Ep2/Orange Box version of Source. Much more eye candy and better gameplay.

just like some, I played the first beta as soon as it was available...but kept getting annoyed by the low number of people playing it and the weapons. Will give a second shot when this next beta comes out FO'SHO
