Is anyone looking forward to the goldeneye source mod I think it is starting to look really good, Brings back the memories.:E

I remember a Goldeneye mod for Jedi Knight 1 (Dark Forces 2) from way back, so what makes this such an impossibility?

Because EA owns the rights to the Goldeneye franchise now.
 
Well..... we need to give EA a bigger problem so they wont look at this...hmm...
 
EA are known for their petty lawyers (all of us lawyers are pretty petty, but we get paid for it). Sadly, the minute this becomes popular, it'll get bitchslapped.

Options are:
  • The mod doesn't get completed. EA does nothing.
  • The mod seems very succesful while it's being made and get's a lot of attention and is hyped. EA sends Lawyers. Lawyers shut down the mod.
  • The mod gets completed, but is not succesful. EA does nothing.
  • The mod gets completed and is very popular. EA sends lawyers. Lawyers shut down the mod.
This is how I see it :)
 
Trust me, if this was Warcraft/Starcraft or Diablo Source.. The Mod would get Shitted and Bitchslapped by Blizzard.. They arent as "open minded" to mods as Valve is.. (P.S There is a counterstrike map on Warcraft 3 and plays alot like CS :D)

If you compare the 2 you will notice that they are "practically" exact except for a bit of texture work.

Who didnt love Goldeneye back in the day?
I hope this MOD makes it all the way, along with the Perfect Dark MOD.
 
I'm really looking forward to this Mod and hope it doesn’t suffer the fate of so many Mods out there that are forgotten and abandoned.

I’m also optimistic about EA...what would be their motivation for shutting it down besides being petty? It’s not like they’re making any money off of the original Goldeneye anymore…
In the end, it’s all about money, not “protecting intellectual property rights” like they claim...but who knows...

I’m hopeful and optimistic...but I’m not going to hold my breath.

That's enough motivation for me.

I doubt the IP owners would be lenient. Goldeneye seems to be ranked the best multiplayer shooter ever - I very much doubt they want a mod to try and leech fame off of its name.

It'd take more than that. You'd need to change the level layouts, change what the guns look like, and make sure that you don't use any names from the 007 storyline.

sweet. im actually hoping the Perfect Dark one to finish first. im a BIG perfect dark fan. i mean, look at my name:D
 
I also enjoyed Perfect Dark a lot - I thought the gameplay was great, but some of the story/character/design choices were....quite lame.... a stereotypical "grey" alien running around wearing a USA jumpsuit??? Come on! I also did not like the design of the Skedars, they looked to comical to be menacing - I found it much more fun to shoot evil humans than silly-looking aliens.

But hey, I'm not really flaming it, the silliness didn't stop me from perfecting the game and playing the multiplayer all the time. Getting all of the cheats was pretty fun!
