Good books

anything Star Wars, especially the New Jedi Order series

I always found Tom Clancy pretty...meh. Michael Crichtons Prey is awesome mind.

hmmm, i'm reading the life of pi at the moment, but i would recommend the lovely bones by alice seabold, and memoirs of a geisha by arthur golden

but as far as sci fi goes which is what most people here want i guess, read ian m banks. he is THE man for science fiction. read the first one first - consider phleabas (or something, i'm not sure what the word means). that ones probably the most gunsy. you would genuinely love these so you should read them. bitch.

I agree. Iain M Banks is utterly amazing.

('Consider Phlebas' is a line from The Waste Land referring to the rise and fall of great civilisations and how they eventually become forgotten despite everything. Phlebas was some guy in ancient history. I think :O)

America's Secret War by George Friedman
Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson
On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers
The Mosquito Coast by Paul Theroux
The Cry of the Owl by Patricia Highsmith

Just some personal favs...:D

ahh, trust ian to come up with that for a name..

have you read the short stories? the state of the art? i really liked some of them. others not so much. i liked the state of the art (the main story) and desendant.

what are your favourite of his books? i liked look to windward. i didn't really like the alchemist. oh and against a dark background sucked - the lead character was stupid.

and what did you think about 'inversions'?

I've only read Consider Phlebas and Use of Weapons.

Now I've gotta find the rest. D:
