Straight from the horse's mouth:

It's been a little over a day since the test release went live at cyber-cafes. We've been looking at the crash reports as well as the bug reports.

Problems we know about:
Can't create a listen server behind a NAT (you get a ticket error)
First time you launch the game, the material for the launcher background doesn't load
You can jump into the sky brush using a grenade
Crash in the vphysics code
Missing +ip command-line argument
Memory corruption in the server browser
Some hardware specific configuration issues
These are fewer issues than we thought we would get, so we are on track for the broader deployment on 8/18 (pre-loading on 8/16). This is good news for our overall Half-Life 2 release as we aren't seeing any pernicious stability, performance, or compatility issues.

Sweetness! Thanks for keeping us updated Gabe!

Again on that site, dosen't he like us snymore ?

I asked this question a long time ago. Since this is the most popular (based on the amount of people who come here every day IE: Indivual hits on this site) HL2 site there is, why doesn't Valve post here more often?

Maybe he likes the forum colour better. It's preety cool actually.

This is class. I've been looking around the forums trying to find some bugs reports, but I didn't find any. This means the game is relatively stabile.

Woo.

It's great that most of the bugs are getting fixed tomorrow. This means that by the time the rest of us play CS:S, it should be really really stable.

I can see the game going gold by the 21st of August at this rate.

I think bug reports are sent throught steam or Steam's forums.

It would be nicer for them to just release the game. :)

Yeah, but at this point I'll take any news, especially good news, over nothing. At least we know that it's still looking good for 2004, hehe.

As long as it gets released. :)

I figure I've been waiting this long, a bit longer won't kill me. Besides, I'm hoping to upgrade my POS video card before it comes out.

Yesss! I will ssseee you up aaahead, Half-Life 2!

LOL. Seriously though, that's great news. Few bugs = HL2 RC imminent.

Been there.... besides..... I live in central Ohio. Maybe a school bus, but then I could sue them and get a better computer. Ya just gotta be optimistic about these things. In fact... COME ON BUS!

{edit typo}

Judging from you're location you WILL DIE BY THE HANDS OF THE CHILDREN ON THE CORN!!!!1111 ARGGGG... but seriously that movie scared the crap outta me. If you die no one will ever find out.

I'm rather well armed here. Actually that name is misleading. They taste nothing like corn. Ermmm.... nevermind.

Armed with a 12 guage shotgun and a pitchfork?

Lol.... I'm surrounded by cornfields yes..... they aren't mine. :)

12 gauge yes, I imagine I could find a pitchfork if I needed to, but I prefer to keep my targets a bit farther away.

[edit: apologies for the hijacking of this thread.]

Wow great news! I sense Gabe is getting really excited!

Now what does everyone think about the release date. God I hope it comes out before September.

My 1337 knowledgable cool self is thinking september first ... or the 15th of sept ... just to be assholes ... or the 30th to be assholes even more :sniper: :sniper: :sniper: :sniper: :sniper: :sniper: :sniper:

HL2 ships with its own multiplayer component, not CS:S. right? are they going to beta test it?

I know it's not "officially" the preload time from the 17th but I can't help feeling that this could be more to do with contracts with Viviendi, rather than the ability not to preload fully.

Didn't Gabe say that preloading would begin two weeks before release?

There's no official word on that. As far as we know, CS:S is the only multiplayer component for Hl2. We can only hope that there is a hl2-based MP, but don't hold your breath.

Forgot about the HL2 MP, we havn't discussed that in awhile....wonder if they are going to have anything.... :(

I don't know why everyone is doubting HL2 having its own MP. I don't see why not. It will probably just be DM and TDM though. And I believe it was confirmed that CS:S is coming with the standard SP&MP SKU.
