Close to the end of HL2, where Breen has all three protagonists captive, he mentions that "He was sold to the highest bidder" or something. I'm assuming "He" indicates Gordon.

So, we know Breen knows that Gordon is somehow employed by Gman, or by the government Gman represents. I believe many factions are involved in a power struggle, and it is in the best interest of the Combine, who obviously did not bid highest, to capture Gordon alive and use him for their benefit.

Personally, I don't believe the Combine are necessarily the "bad guys" in the big picture, though they obviously are for humans, I guess. In any case, Gman ends up helping humans, but only because it serves his own interests as well. I believe if the Combine ended up bidding highest for Gordon, HL2 might've been a sequence of shooting down those pesky rebels. The "highest bidders", whoever they are, happen to be in a power struggle against the Combine, who happen to be against human rebellion.

That's as far as my theory goes. Maybe the highest bidders are some third species we haven't seen yet, or maybe they're actually human.

Another theory. I think Gordon and Alyx's 1 week teleportation from Nova Prospekt has something to do with the discovery of the very stasis Gordon and Sheffield are placed in. As a consequence, I guess that would mean Gman is from the future.

Any theories on who Gman might be representing that might be hinted at in what we've seen so far? Sorry for the long post :P

Sheffield? You mean Shepard(sp?)?

As for your theory, meh. I think im just gonna wait for HL3 and not speculate...

The bid for Gordon on e-bay.

I agree with the first part of that, but G-man from the future? I believe he is not. We'll have to wait and see though. Gordon's time out between HL and HL2 is quite similar to the Nova Prospekt -> Kleiner's Lab teleport sequence.
I think they can slow down time to a crawl, but not stop or reverse it. I see no evidence for reverse time travel in HL games.
