i tryed instaling half life 2 on my brand new computer but it did not work. im pritty sure everything is good enough for the game but when i get to the main menue its a blur. i cant find the graphics card information on this computer. how do i find it? but other than that my computer is upp to the recomended system requirments.

You probably need updated drivers. But if I read your post correctly, you don't even know what video card you have? You can find out by going to START, RUN, then type dxdiag and hit enter. In the window that pops up, click on the Display tab. Your video card should be there.

ok thatnx, u were right i dont know what kind of graphics card i have.

ok i see it, but what am i looking for??? i think i need direct 7 for half life 2 but i dont see direct 7 on there

Go to Display on the top tab, it should tell you there.

ok but whats direct3D and directdraw, is that good enough to play half life 2 cuz i think u need a dierctX 7 or something

ITS A DEM3000 DELL, can someone give me their opinion, can u run half life 2 on that???

Direct3D and DirectDraw are just two parts of the DirectX graphics API.

edit:
Direct3D = 3D.
DirectDraw = 2D.

ok sory im not good at computers, im only 13 dude but im tryin! so... what am i looking for here???

Thirteen years old still means you can learn tons upon tons of stuff.

Go to the Display tab, there you should see a box about devices, the name of your device, i.e your graphics card, should be shown there.

Age means very little. Im 14 and I can take a computer apart and put it back togeather no prob. I can write websites in html(php + css+ mysql) and I've learned a little C++.
I new quite a bit bout gfx cards back when I was 11 or 10.

So age makes little diffrence. Your just not a...hardware kind of guy?

Anyway the Dx7 isn't everything. I mean you could have a crappy Dx7 card.

In Dxdiog -> Display on the top left corner it should have,
Name:
Manufacturer:
Chip Type:
DAC Type:
Approx Total Memory:
Current Display Mode:
Monitor:
Can you give me as many as you can?

im pritty sure everything is good enough for the game but when i get to the main menue its a blur.
Are you sure your system isn't still loading the background? The background is rendered in realtime and while it's rendering it's all a blur. After it's done rendering it should show a realtime non-blury scene.

name, manufactuer, chip type, DAC type, aprox total memory, curent display model, moniter. thats it

ok u want all of that information? ill give it to you. yea im not a hardwear kind of guy i guess. this stuff confuses me

He wants you to tell him what it says after that.

Name: INTEL(R) 82865G graphics controler
Manufacturer: Intel corperation
Chip Type: INTEL(R) 82865G graphics controler
DAC Type: internal
Approx Total Memory: 96.0 MB
Current Display Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60 Hz)
Monitor: plug and play monitor

I would think that may be able to run it..considering it's at least Dx7.....
What about the game? Can you play the game fine?

Hehehe. Ohmigod.

You aren't even meeting the minimum system requirements.

then theres another box that says

DirectDraw Acceleration: Enabled
Direct3D Acceleration" Enabled
AGP Texture Acceleration: Not avalible

You're using an onboard video card. If you want better results with HL2, I suggest purchasing a video card. www.newegg.com has good ones for cheap prices. Save up your piggy bank.

The extra details you mentioned do not matter at this point.

Yeah, aren't we forgetting Lost Coast and the many other games that are out there?

but dude, this comp was like 350 bucks, im lucky i got that! i mean come on ill never have enough money. its worth it i know that but its just not possible for me. it sucks i know.

Well for 350 dollars you can't really expect much... you can spend more than that on a video card alone. But at least it's better than your old PC... right? Maybe? :|

if i save some money by the end of a week ive blown it all on my girlfriend and stuff like that. but honestly id rather just have half life 2 and lost coast just as u mentiond

lol yea, this PC works really well, i run doom 3 fine on it. its new and my old PC couldent handle any games.

Thats only for the highest level of computers. Thats technically a Tech-Demo. Though it will be a fun game to.

Your thinking of "Mods". Mods are made by the community and are therefor free.

Also his card is PCI..which makes it even worse..

my dads computer is better than this one, i played and beat half life 2 on it but i dont think lost coast will work on it. i felt lucky to get half life 2 on it.

my dads uninstaling HL2 on his comp. so ill never get to play it again. that does suck but it would be so cool if it came out for PS3 cuz my dad is gettin that. he only wants sony consoles for some reason. i wonder when that comes out??? WHO WATCHES G4-TECH TV!!!!!

So even after it loads the Menu scene it is still bury? Remember, the menu screen is blury until it loads it (takes a while).

but i let it sit there a wile and it never did anything, then i think it made a noice and shut off
