GTA San Andreas MP modification today!!!

Yeah, but is it gonna be crappy?

Why oh why it has to be vehicle based? It would be so fun to run around on foot, now it's just another racing/killing game...

No. They added VC MP and it was fun. SA will probably be even more fun.

And why wouldn't it be vehicle based. Its ****ing GTA :|.

your dumb:cheese:

Well... the fact that you can't get out of a car really turns me off, maybe that's just me.

I'm pretty sure you can get out of the car.

omfg ghey
Don't care if it's out now

EDIT: Although :O
You may have seen videos of this part of the mod, but you haven't seen this feature list for the "Map Editor" :
  • The four main elements you can create are spawnpoints, checkpoints, pick-ups and objects.
  • Select, drag and drop an enormous selection of models/objects (around 15,000) anywhere in the map. All of the objects that the MTA Quality Assurance Team chose were from the previously existing selection of objects in the San Andreas files. If it's in the game and it was modeled by Rockstar North, chances are that it's in MTA's map editor for dragging and dropping.
  • Object categories include beach and sea, buildings, industrial, interior objects, land masses, miscellaneous, nature, structures and transportation. The explosive barrels seen in the following screenshot are in the "Miscellaneous" category and under the "Special" sub-category:

You're right. The VC mod that they made let you run around on foot.

Maybe the reason is because when you shot somebody in the VC version it rarely ever registered, even after firing an entire clip into them. I'm guessing they couldn't fix that problem.

They created a moddable framework called "Blue" from which they can build mods for GTA:SA. The first mod they're making is the race mod. Deathmatch will come later... as it's more complex. Anyway, even without being able to go on foot it's still a lot of fun.

If you want DM now, even if it's a bit glitchy, you should check out GTA Rumble.

Still, IMO, the one I'm looking forward to the most is San Andreas Multiplayer (SA:MP). You should check out the new video they released earlier this month. The vehicle synchronization is the best I've seen of any GTA mod, it has a scripting language (PAWN/SMALL) to make your own mini-mods, and it has deathmatch. It seems to be nearing completion, but there's no release date. For all I know, it could still take months.

Can't get out of your car anymore?

I'll pass.

I just finished making a couple of maps of my own. There's "Super Sumo Skyscraper Scuffle" and "City Safari" If you haven't yet noticed, I'm stuck in alliteration mode with my map names. Anyway, the former is a battle on top of several interconnected skyscrapers out in the water... last one alive wins. The latter is just a drive around Los Santos... albeit with some added jumps, car switching, etc. So, if anyone is on right now and wants to join me, I'll be doing some extensive testing on my own server @ 24.94.107.23 on the default port.

EDIT: OK, I can't find any other mistakes/glitches... so, here are the final maps (unless I missed something big):

The map editor is extremely cool. I've been messing around with some maps of my own. It took me a while to set up 32 spawn points on the runway, but they're all aligned up nicely now.

Multi Theft Auto is a modification for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for PC (currently only version 1.0) that allows you to play it online against players around the world. This is the first release of MTA:SA which contains a race modification and a race map editor.

Huh? That sucks. It would be cool if you could share the entire state of San Andreas with a bunch of other players online.

You can. The race maps are just certain courses either pre-programmed into the existing map or created with the map maker.

Overall the mod is a lot more fun than you would think. Should be great when they get the on foot completed.

There has been an SA MP mod out there for a LONG time...my roomate plays it on and off..couldn't tell you the name of it though.

As I said earlier, your other options are GTA Rumble (so-so synchronization, but you can go on foot and use weapons) and gtaTournament (more polished than Rumble, can also go on foot, spawn pre-defined cars, earn money by doing stunts, a simple scripting language, but no weapons yet). IMO, the most impressive mod is the one that hasn't been released yet... San Andreas Multiplayer (SA:MP).

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going back into the map editor... :E

Most of you seem to judge the book by it's cover here, and having played the mod, it's honestly quite fun even with the vehicle-only restriction. There's a certain satisfaction in slamming other car's into exploding barrels which chain-react onto other cars causing massive carnage. That or slamming your chopper into another chopper causing them to smash into the water...

Regardless, this is only the racing 'mod' in place, eventually the DM / TDM / whatever will be released with on-foot. Overall, I'd say the mod is pretty damn impressive considering it's adding a fully functional multi-player mode onto a purely single-player game.

It's just that everyone's used to playing on foot in the VC version of the mod.

so what if your car explodes? Wil you spawn inside a new vehicle? If you can't get off the car you are driving that sucks. Also how many people can play together at the same time?

If your car gets damaged too much, or you flip over, you explode and die. Then you have to spectate for the rest of the game, which can take ages sometimes, especially on the dogfight deathmatch maps (which are lame). There are some 32 player servers.

Just because it doesn't have on-foot right now doesn't mean it won't have it in the future. The engine is designed for other's to create their own 'mods', so on-foot gameplay might not be too far off. To knock the mod just because it doesn't have on-foot isn't fair, the job they did with a basic 'race' mod is impressive already. People overlook the increased functionality they have made for the MTA:SA engine simply because it doesn't let you run / walk (for now).

The gameplay with race-mod isn't designed to be DM (I'm sure they'll add that next, or soon), so no you don't respawn. If you die, you're out, gameplay with the race-mod generally involves last-man standing or normal race.

You can switch vehicles, mostly through specific waypoints / icon that'll instantly spawn you into another vehicle. Example, it's possible to start a race in a bike, switch to plane, switch to hovercraft, then back to bike all in one race.

In terms of how many people, it all depends on the server host. I didn't look out for the biggest available server (I went for best ping) but I saw a decent chunk of 32 player servers, I'd guess there might be 64 (or more) if you bothered to look. From what I remember, they mentioned that the MTA:SA engine was designed to be very host-friendly, it takes very little resources to run the servers and judging from the amount available, I wouldn't be surprised to see 64. Although looking back, having 64 players altogether in a 'race' environment wouldn't seem plausible, so I'd assume they wouldn't host any that big...

Can you at least switch cars?
When you go through checkpoints you sometimes change to a different vehicle, but it's chosen by the guy that made the map.

... or they can have items that make you switch cars. The "Freeroam" map has tons of them. You can drive just about any vehicle you want on that map.

EDIT: A new video of SAMP was just released.

Very fun mod, though there are some problems..

First off, the voting. There are some people that vote NON-STOP for their favorite map, until it gets voted in. During a race, I find myself constantly eyeing the left side of the screen for the mapvote message so I can hit F2. They need to stop the vote spam. There is nothing more frustrating than to be in the last 1/4 of a close race and then some impatient ****tard succeeds in voting another map in.

And the quality of some of the included maps is poor. Honestly, some of them are crap. Particularly the dogfighting maps. They aren't fun at all and just drag on forever.

I'm very much looking forward to DM :D

The server can set a limit on the time you have to wait between loading a race and voting for a new one. The default is only 90 seconds.

This isn't pertaining to the MP addon, but does anybody have difficulty using controls for the game? Is there any way to get a gamepad to function just lik the PS2 version of the game does? :(

Yeah, just get an adapter to plug your PS2 controller into PC, or buy a separate PC controller. The PC controls definitely don't play as well as on PS2 even with a gamepad though, hard to say if the improved graphics make up for it, but the game is definitely manageable.

I just trained myself to do ok with the mouse/keyboard. It's kinda hard with the aircraft but you'll get used to it.

The only thing I ever have trouble doing with the keyboard is flying and fighting at the same time in helicopters (and the hydra in hover mode). For that, the controls are a bit awkward...

Can you send me your control configuration? I wanna see what you use. I have trouble driving sometimes with powerslides with the controls... as well as pulling back or leaning forward on bikes. Seems funky to use.

I just use WASD for steering and arrow keys for leaning. It's nothing special.

WASD? Man, i've never used that, even though its ancient. I've always used arrow keys and the ones surrounding them. Feels more natural.

ANyways. why does my damn view keep going back forward when i'm driving in a vehicle? I want my camera to STAY where I point it!

WASD is the best way. The spacebar is in a good position for handbrake that way making slides easy.

How come it keeps kicking me out for cheating? Is it because i'm using the program that lets me configure controls of my ps2 control?
