Gunship 'belly cannon'

I dont know how many people have seen this attack from the gunship, seems pretty rare, anyways, screenie underneath. It seems pretty cool, but never was it used throughout my few trips through the game. Messing around and spawning stuff today, it tried to get me with it, and scared me to death!

I'm confused why its in the game and hardly used, its really amazing and probably really powerful. Things like this were put in but not optimisted and used to their potential, perhaps like the vortigaunts also. Anyway, i hope it kills me with it someday

wow, that's awesome. It has never happend to me, although a friend was talkinking about some beam thing that that ship was using. Perhapt that is it?

That beam weapon is similar to the Strider's cannon. In the leaked version, that weapon is used (in a scripted sequence) to destroy a shack with a resistance fighter in it, poor guy.

edit: I must say though, when I first saw it while screwing around with NPCS it reminded me a lot of this

I came across this a little while ago while I was playing around with Hammer. It seems to only happen if you get almost directly under the gunship. I took a few shots.

i also found that a long time ago, when i also was spawning things lol, was too lazy to post it tho.. i tried to go under it to see what would happen and my game froze lol.. gotta love those memory errors :'(

In the beta in the town of NLO (before there was the odessa character) the guy didnt give you the rocket launcher, he just wanted you to fight. After he succusfully fires a rocket he hides under a metal shed. the gunship, being pissed off, flies over him and destroys the shack with that large beam, the shed blows up like it should and you pick up the RL from there
