well upon finishing HL2 i kind of felt that no real story had really come together on a global basis ( what happened to the world, not how the characters developed and what i was to do next and why) well after coming here, i realized that when i played hl1, (essiential for the hl2 plot) i didnt retain any info on the plot : ( . id love to play the game again, so basically im asking, in your opinion, what would be better playing HL1 or HL S . im gonna play one of em, but im not sure what would be best at this point

If you purchased Silver or Gold through Steam or the Collectors Edition through retail, you'll have Half-Life Source and should play that. If you got Bronze / Normal Retail, there's no way for you to get HL:S for the time being, so you may as well play HL original.

The Source version is almost identical, excepting some graphical details. Not enough was changed for you to want HL:S if you don't already own it, but if you do, there is no real reason why you'd want to play HL Original instead.
