Half-Life 2 Benchmark

so which card would run better on hl2 in your guys opinion? the 9100 or the 9600se?

9100 - there is no way 9600SE to be faster, but I wonder how will it perform with DirectX9 effects turned on... Well, let's wait for the benchmark :p

depends on the card, playing in DX8 mode, just means you miss a ton of cool shaders/effect.. it shouldnt really effect performance since your losing quality.

if its an MX/SE card, your looking at even less quality/effects since they dont support certain shaders (Vertex)

what system do you have? what resolution do you play games in currently? do you enable AF and AA in other games? if so which and how do they run?

Well, I have a 2.4 GHz processor, 638 mb of ram (dont ask how), and a 128mb card in which I forget the name and the specs because my brother got it for me and put it in as a christmas gift, but I know its not MX/SE (or thier equivalent) because I asked him

But as for playing games, I play at 1027x768 with 4xAA on no problem, but I only ever play half-life (and its mod counterparts) and red faction, I havent tried any newer games on it but the older ones run fine, which really doesnt matter because they run fine on lower systems too.

it sounds decent enough, if you want to find out what the card is either

A: click
Start>Control Panel>System
then click the "Hardware tab" (third to the right)
then click on the "Device Manager" button in the middle of the page
now click on the + sign in the box next to "Display adapters" (should be about third from the top)

and then tell me what it says

alternatively you could:
B: double click on "My Computer" then C:\
then dbl click on "Program Files"
then dbl click on "Directx"
then dbl click on "Dxdiag"
let it detect whatever it needs to then click on the "Display" tab
and it should tell you what you have.

in case your having trouble finding your directx dir, you can always open up any folder click on "Search" in the top bar, and then search all local drives for
"Dxdiag" (dont need the "")

...or you could type dxdiag in the Run dialog from the Start Menu :)

but that would be no fun

and Im really digging Theatre, of Tragedy

I'm not sure if someone mentioned this, but since obviously you can't run HL2 with a voodoo3, go out and get a geforce3 TI 200-500 or something. With that CPU there's not much of a point going any higher than that. Not to mention money factor.

I'm actually kinda hopin HL2 don't come out till after the summer, so I have plenty of time to save for the hardwares.

I kinda do too, my summer is so cramped with stuff that i'd like it to come out in the end of july.
