Hey guys, Im sort of new to hl2 considering I stopped playing untill cs 1.6 and im having some problems with registering the hl2 cd key into steam...it tells me its incorrect even when theres nothing wrong...the only thing is I didnt install the cd's yet and I was wondering if that may be the problem..also my mom threw out the cd covering paper with the cd key on it so im using the backup paper I wrote when I bought the game....I might even have wrote of the letters/numbers wrong so can I even notify steam this problem and ask them to correct my cd key??

Please help and answer my questions, im so confused! :o ;(

Try to install the game first then go to steam. Click on browse games and at the very bottom it should say register a product I already own..do that and try to enter the CD Key..other than that...I have no clue.. sorry.

haha thks eatbugs but dream, is there any place i cant download hl2 and imput the cd key?? because i dont have the cd's right now

use steam and preload the files kinda, i think u still can
if not u gotta go browse games register products i already own and bind your cd key to your account,

if that doesnt work slap your mum to bits cos you have no proof that cs key is actually yours, thusly u cant send your box to vavle and get your key enabled.......

on another note, sounds very suspicious that your mum threw out the paper, when i got the dvd box i was like its mine!!

... in conclusion you is buggered go get your mum to rebuy the game if it IS her fault if it wasnt her fault and infact u roffled the cd key from sumwheres shame on you go buy it

Emphasis on IF.

You are entering the key correctly, right? It is in this format

AAAAA-BBBBB-CCCCC-DDDDD-EEEEE

There is a second line that some people think is part of the cd-key (it looks like "HALFLIFE 2 3939348-349348" or something similiar), but it is NOT part of the cd-key, DON'T ENTER IT. If that doesn't work, you're screwed, and you'll have to buy another copy of the game.

the cd key is stuck to the inside of the cd/dvd case, why on earth would your mum throw that out? sounds very dodgy to me

Tell your mom to buy a new copy of HL2, it was her fault anyway.

My mother has "OCD" she has to keep everything clean and throws out everything. Thts why i bought a $200 safe.

Anyhow, lets say i borrow my friends hl2' cds and install it to my comp, will tht work or will I have to rebuy the game again?

That would work but he'd have to give you the password for his Steam account, and you can't be logged in to the same Steam account from two different computers at the same time. So you won't be able to play CS:S or HL2DM at the same time, or even single player HL2, unless one of you is in Offline Mode. Just go buy another copy. :P

joo isnt meant to tell him you nooooob w00000000000t

lol, i suggest u buy the game or you will get a dire battering from everyone

Alright I guess I will have to buy, but once you install hl2, steam doesnt come up does it...I already have my own account, does it require you to create a new one??? prob

grrrr!! lol:flame:

Its hard to recognize what Joims inscribes...

dirty british/aus haha

If you have a steam account, with a legitamate copy of HL2 registered to it, then you dont need your key.

Go to www.steampowered.com to download steam,. from there, you can download all content you legally own.

*edit,. maybe I didnt read the problem correctly. If steam is telling you your key is invalid, your pretty much SOL on that key.

thats a good point..considering I have a legit cd key that wont register!

maybe i spelt it wrong!
