Ok, I played/completed Half-Life 2 on my old PC with no problems at all.

I got a much better PC for gaming for christmas 06 - roughly about 10months ago - and installed my Half-Life 2 disk (which included HL1, HL2.DM & CS:S) onto it. As I'd already completed HL, I didnt play it, and it just sat in my Steam games. Over the past 10months (among other things), i've played CS:S mainly, with a bit of Gmod 10 quite recently.

The problems all started after I downloaded a few Gmod add-ons [www.garrysmod.org]. I started to get random crashes out of Gmod, with various windows error msgs. Since then, i've deleted all Gmod add-ons, and uninstalled Gmod itself.

So far, I have not had any more windows error msgs, like: "3D driver" etc. but i've had some other problems.

---- PROBLEMS ----

1. I've ordered the new "Orange Box", and in preparation for Ep1 + Ep2, i've decided to finally attempt to complete HL2 again on my new comp. I go to run the game, and everything starts fine and it lets me start the level. I get up to the bit where 'Barney' begins to talk to you, and tells you to jump out the window and get away. After you jump out the window, there is a door, which you have to open. After I open the door, a msg saying "Loading" appears in the center of the screen (which is perfectly normal), but THEN, the loading stays there, and my computer crashes into blackness, and then eventually, back to the desktop.

///////////////////////

2. I've researched this second problem before, and have found many people with the same problem (probably a Steam bug). When I attempt to launch, the screen goes black (as if its about to load), and then returns back to the desktop - without an error msg.

-------

Really appreciate any help.

Uninstall it,delete half life folder, install it,dont use mods!

Thanks, i'll try it.

When you say "Delete the HL folder", do you mean the folder in:

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\whateveryourusernameis

?

Yes. Do remove the SteamApps/username/half-life 2 folder too.

If it doesn't help, try downloading the newest drivers for your graphics card.

Thanks.

After many times of trying to get through the crash, I finally prevailed, BUT, the next "Load", it crashed.

So, the problem is:

MY COMPUTER CRASHES EVERY TIME "LOADING" APPEARS ON THE SCREEN
