i always wished lvl design in hl2 involved specific places. what i mean is look at hl2 ecspecially city 17..it was nothing but hotels and more hotels..we never actually got a looks inside any building or anything..

the only interesting place i found was the playground..with the doll and stuff..perhaps they could have added a cybercafe with computers in it..or perhaps a restaurant with food and stuff still there..or perhaps an old shopping centre with zombies..or a basketball court with a ball in the middle..

that would give a better feel of the game if you actually see real life places that ppl go so that you can feel the realism of the game better..in ep1, at least there was the hospital..hopefully ep2 improves upon this..thoughts?

i meant the hotel like feel, nothing but beds and rooms everywhere and cash registers and tables ect..like a hotel..

That's how it's supposed to be. Humanity isn't supposed to do anything. Cyber caf?s are against the Combine Regulations.

There wasn't a single hotel in HL2.

Well, yes there was but that's besides the point.
I too wish you could have entered every single building you saw a door too and talked to every single person you met and have them said something unique each time with unique and realistic looks to every object and every location... but that just ain't gonna happen in any game anytime soon.

I wish the Combine would REALLY invade so we could live the game. . .

oh wait. . that would be bad. . .

Unless you want want loading times to go to hell, then no ultra-exploring.

The thing that really got to me was how lame most of the puzzles involving the environment were, they were all about breaking some ridiculous wooden support that was apparently built recently or using those handy but without purpose explosive barrels to destroy the wooden whatever. They should have used stuff you would actually see in that kind of city to make the puzzles not just those stupid things so much around

By wooden support you don't mean that thing holding up the train car in the canals, do you? How can you tell it was put there recently?

And the support holding the steel beams on the cable up in Water Hazard when would they have been built and by who is a good question and the exploding barrels are way too prevalent and annoy me when used for a puzzle and what are they for around there

I think those were flats? (More common in Eastern Europe/Russia.) I didn't miss being able to explore them until I played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. where you can explore them all. While HL2 is technically a 'rail', it's always fun to have this extra depth in the game.

I wonder why the Combine left the 'Train' (read: refugee escape system) system open? They seemed to know where it was... hell, they had a couple of bases nearly on top of the damn thing. Were they waiting until a Rogue Physicist went down it to shut it down?

They were ahead of you at every turn. They must have known the railroad was there. But... were they waiting for you?

From what i see, the rebels seem damned good at hiding and stuff. Civil Protection certainly tried to get rid of them (that's why they know about manhacks), but the Combine probably got lazy, as all dictatorships eventually get. Same reason so much of Nova Prospekt is run down.

The prison was built before the Combine invade so only some parts were maintained yet now the whole place is ruined nice and well
