Half life 2 mod problem

Sorry if this is in the wrong spot or asked over and over again, but when I download Half life 2 mods, I try to play them and it plays HL: ep2. I deleted ep2, and it said to download ep2. Any suggestions?

Download ep2? Or do you have it installed already? Some if not most mods require it afaik.

I have it installed, so when I play the mod, it plays ep2
