I know this is a bit far fetched and I'm not even sure it's possible. I'm gonna sound like a complete novice here, but does HL2 come with a significant construction set? I'm only taking my experience of building mods from games like Morrowind, where the TES which was included allowed players to pretty much create entirely new games.

So question is, if this is possible with the HL2 modders out there, do you think that someone will go about recreating half life 1? obviously there's quite a few differences, but I think someone could atleast recreate the 'level' (for use of a better word) i.e. inside black mesa.

Something this big would take about a year to re-create, but it'd be something worth waiting for. Anyone think something along these lines will be created or even something as optimistic as a mod of this calibre?

Ah, kewl.

Well I figured it was most likely possible, not sure whether it's plausable though.

It would be a very very big project, and im sure there's some statis objects as well as NPC's etc. that won't be available (yet). But the overall layout should be possible, the whole facility etc. I think it's something that every fan out there would download (if done properly).

The whole of HL1 is on source, called HL:Source :)

What Sucky Ducky is pointing you to is that it's essentially already been done, albeit re-using all level geometry and models from HL. That's what the game HL:Source is.

i think he wants all new models, all new npcs and new everything on sorce engine

i think he meant a mod using the same level models and textures and animations and possibly even creature behaviors from half life 2 in the game half life 1 using the source engine. this would include modelling new versions in high polys of some creatures that didnt get transferred into Half life 2.

I saw somewhere either here or on ************* that there was already a mod team working on that.

it would be radically different from half life:source because of teh use of teh newer high poly models and architecture.

Lots of mod teams are claiming to be doing it, we'll see which ones are succesful.

But yeah Source is good to mod, or will be in a week.

Ahh oki, so is it going to be downloadable or are we going to have to buy it?

Is it the entire HL1 game or just the base? i.e. no weapons/spawns/npc's etc.

Yes, it is called HalfLife overhaul or something like that

Half-Life:Source cost money, but mods won't cost anything. But you can only get hl:s bundled in silver or gold steam package. Not as a separate yet...
