Half-Life 2 Multiplayer revealed!

I have that issue its the current one. They don't know anything about it, they just talk about CS:S and stuff. There just assuming that it's the multiplayer, they just wrote that so more people will buy it.

CS;S is just one aspect of HL2s multiplayer. I dont think its the one coming out with HL2 as it official MP. I expect that the official MP will be crazy...

If they really knew anything new, it would be the main article, center page..

:dozey: Didn't Gabe or somebody else say that CS:S was Half Life 2's mutliplayer?

No, HL2 will have its own mp.

hopefully , but we r not positive yet , but i dont see why at all they wouldnt give hl2 its own mp

I'm positive. They would be insane not to include a simple DM :S

Has PC Gamer already talked about CS:S? I Remember a few magazines saying "All the info on Half-Life 2's Multiplayer" and it just ended up being a super small segment on CS:S. If PC Gamer already did talk about it then this could be the news we have been waiting for....

if HL2 has is own mp
I hope the manipulator will be avaible

Mixed responses and interpretations mean.. . .

we;ll see. It is not absolutely known whether or not CS:S will be HL2's primary multiplayer.

If it was known for certain, then we wouldn't have dissidence would we? :)

Just out of interest, why does thos sound worrying to me?

Hi!
I was just wondering whether the production of CS: Source was hindering
that of HL2 or influencing its release date at all?
I understand you're very busy so good luck.
Cheers,
Chris George

It's work we have to do regardless (e.g. for multiplayer sample code for
the SDK).

CS:Source has to be finished to create some kind of multiplayer sample code? Does that mean there is no other multiplayer? If not, why can't they use HL2 multiplayer for the sample code?

I don't know whether it is something to worry over, but it doesn't sound good to me..

agreed :)
and CS:Source would not really be HL2's MP since CS in general has nothing to do with HL.

CS:S is not HL2's MP.

Unfortunately, it is.

In the recent mails about the netcode, Gabe hardly mentions anything about HL2's multiplayer. Like the person above me has already stated, they are focusing on just beta testing cs:s and nothing about using HL2's multiplay as the sample. So it's about time we stop wishing that HL has some vanilla DM and keeping our hopes up to high, because we won't have it. That's that. :|

Don't believe me if you wish, but valve definately has either crossed of any plans to make a DM - otherwise they would have assured us and not try to change the topic in the mails or not respond back, the supposed beta had one or two maps for DM, but that was just a false rumour.

Edit: Ok, since you guys are so fast, the person who posted 3 posts ago. :P

Sounds like they just want to test the netcode that HL2 DM will be using externally, to me. The CS:S beta sounds like a test both of CS:S (among the people it's targeted at) and the Source netcode. I still fail to see how this means there will be no HL: DM.

For the record, I don't play many MP games, but I most certainly don't want a variation on CS as HL2's MP. I can only play MP with one other person (On our LAN), and I really prefer a DM type game for that. Plus, I would really love some multiplayer manipulator action...

Sorry, again the stolen build proves you all wrong.

The HL2 stolden build showcases a score board system, a chat system, and several multiplayer hl2 console command points. It also has several other included things which would be going too far into "stolen build" talk.

Also, CS:S is the game to test source online because it's the smartest game TO test it with.

Everyone and their mother has played CS, and CS:Source won't ruin anything from HL2's development side.

Those of you who really believe that HL2 won't have some minor stock multiplayer are kidding themself. Even if it's Half-Life 1:Source with the manipulator and vehicles, it's a multiplayer function.

 That's right I almost forgot, you could play multiplayer on the leaked Half Life 2! But who knows what Valve has done to Half Life 2.

I don't know whether it is something to worry over, but it doesn't sound good to me..

since Valve want to keep the official HL2 multiplayer completely under wraps untill release or close up to release, they can't release HL2 multiplayer sample code with the SDK since the plan has always been to release the SDK before they release HL2. since everybody already know about CS:S and there's no need to keep it under wraps, they release CS:S sample code with the SDK....nothing to worry about I assure you.

CS:S won't be HL2's MP simply because its an unrelated game. A seperate entity.

The reason that they're using the beta of CS:S to test the netcode etc is because it's not really anything new. Yes, its a new engine but we've all seen what it can do already and most of us have all played CS so we know what we can do and what to expect.

They won't beta the HL2 MP because its all new stuff. They're being very quiet about it for one of two reasons.
1) It's nothing special, just a standard multiplayer.
2) It's something special.

And before you say it, TF2 won't be the MP!!!

In the recent mails about the netcode, Gabe hardly mentions anything about HL2's multiplayer

Why would he? If they have kept it under wraps for this long, what's the point in ruining it all when the release is so close. They are beta testing CS:Source FOR all SOURCE multiplayer games. You could call this a rough strain test for the physics and new netcode itself. I'm curious to wonder why the HL2 Stolen build had highly working netcode in it. Hell, the only thing missing were player animations[heh...not really, but again thats stolen build talk].

it's about time we stop wishing that HL has some vanilla DM and keeping our hopes up to high, because we won't have it. That's that.

Sorry if I disagree. There is too much stolen build proof that clearly says otherwise.

the supposed beta had one or two maps for DM, but that was just a false rumour.

Remember, HL1's multiplayer maps were based on the single-player campaign.

Finally, if for some odd freakish reason HL2 doesn't have multiplayer, it will be "stock" community modded within the first week.

I will gladly eat an entire box of crow is HL2 doesn't come with a stock form of multiplayer. Considering that an SDK boasted with multiplayer is used around a games multiplayer function overall, generally you would expect that game to carry a multiplayer game of some kind as the example for the values.

Considering all you need to do to make a MP componant is take single player maps and cut them up for MP, throw in some netcode, im sure there is a DM componant, something more to put on the box and sell copies.

that's where you are mistaken.
I acctually heard about CS:S being HL2's multiplayer, and i remember it because I was really bumped out when they said that..

check out the new pc gamer , http://www.pcgamer.com/ top left in the white box it sais Half-Life 2 Multiplay revealed

I got that issue a long time ago, btw its just about cs:s. PC game rocks everyone should go buy it.

From what i've seen

CS:S will come with Half-Life 2. (It was in an interview with gabe)
Half-Life 2 Has to have simple deathmatch minimum. (Guess)
Half-Life:Source will not initially include multiplayer support. (It was in an interview with gabe)

I got this mag from CGW (Computer Gaming World) I think it was. They said they had "previews of HL2 and TS2"

So I bought it. I flip through it, look at some of the pages, find the HL2 "preview" and read it. The preview was nothing more than 2 paragraphs. I find better info on the net for crying out loud...

The beta maps can be played in MP, I played it with a friend of mine. And have you even thought about that valve might not want to spoil anything about MP untill it goes gold or so? We already have loads of information. we dont want everything to be known. They have managed to keet the existence of HL² a secret for 5 years, so why cant they do that to the MP..

anyone know if u get the cs:s beta thing with the cs:z and cafe whatever owners if u have a hl2 coupon?
