I'm currently on my first playthrough of Half-Life 2 and I'm currently on Highway 17. I HATED Water Hazard, loathed it. I also don't like Highway 17. Ravenholm is alright, if not a very twister Alice In Wonderland (going through a tunnel to come out in to Ravenholm.)

Is it all Vehicles with really bad controls or is it only a few levels?

After Highway 17 i think your done with the vehicles. I liked that level myself, but everything after that is just awesome (well, minus sandtraps, the level right after highway 17).

Not everyone will appreciate HL2, just as I don't really enjoy ethnic cleansing (though it seems rather popular in the third world!) but that aside, if its mainly the vehicles bugging you, it doesn't last forever.

In fact its hardly that big a bit of the game, I'm surprised your finding it so loathsome.

I liked Highway 17 myself, the sense of desolation and decay in the signs of civilization you come across, and the feeling of isolation is pretty cool.

There is a level with a bridge that I particularly found atmospheric.

Funnily enough Episode 2 which occurs outside the city entirely isn't nearly as atmospheric in my mind, it feels...well, too populated and vibrant.

^ agreed

Ep2 wasn't what we expected. But I think the buggy and airboat levels are fine. But I, for one, HATE the levels after Kleiner's lab. Manhacks can eat a cock.

Funny, I quite enjoyed that part. Just finished Highway 17. Nova Prospekt very soon!

Water Hazard was one of my favourite bits. After you get off the sand the game becames mostly about shooting soldiers, with some variety thrown in here and there, if you'd prefer that. I also rather like fighting manhacks. It adds a three dimentional aspect to the standard person-on-person firefights. I like playing maps where you have to fight soldiers and manhacks at once, with no gravity gun.

I HATE MANSPACKS.

urghh.

Nova Prospekt is awesome, btw.

F**k manhacks - I got so many bad dreams from those little shits.

the vehicle stages are probably just 25% of the game. I loved the vehicle bits as a whole, it added variety

I have to agree, I found the HL2 wasteland parts to be more atmospheric than the later ones. I loved going though the unoccupied houses and looking for supplies.

Although I liked the addition of the vehicles when I first played them, they just don't feel like vehicles anymore; they feel too underwhelming
