Half Life 2 preload size

In canada it looks to be that the retail price will be 69.99 CAD for hl2. Now the silver edition is 60 USD, which is currently about 70 CAD, sooooo.... for a few cents more you can get HL: Source, DoD:Source and so on.

Anyways, I would like to know the size of the cache files, as my university limits our bandwith to 1.5GB per week. Are the files uncompressed, so you end up downloading the 3GB that makes up the game, or are the files highly compressed? I have searched for this but only came up with the size of people's backups, which are indeed 3 something GB.

I would say download it, but you can only download 1.5gbs a week, then just buy it.. it comes to about 4.23 GB in total for all of the files, smarter to pick it up from retail

I find my average use is about 60 - 150 MB a day, so the limit is ok. But its not! The whole reason I was going to buy the CE is for HL:Source, but for the same price I can get that and more if I use steam. So sad. It'll take weeks to download off steam. ;( . So I'll just have to buy the retail then. Thanks!
