I cannot believe it.

Just a year ago, everything felt so uncertain.
Now Half Life 2 is out, and it has fulfilled more than we ever hoped for.

Now...we should set a time where we go spam some doom3 forum!

heh, tell that to the few people over at the Steampowered forums who have nothing better to do than bash Steam. They will still tell you that Half-Life 2 was a spectacular failure because of Steam.

Personally I call Half-Life 2 a huge success in my book. It lived up to my expectations in most places and even surpassed it in others.

By the way, forum attacks make baby Gordon cry. :(

Hey, hey, hey! My general consensus is this: Half-Life 2 rocks, Steam SUCKS!

I've heard of a lot of young people who received HL2 as a Christmas present, and since a lot of them were offline, weren't even able to play the game. Now doesn't that suck?

Valve and Vivendi seem to be under the impression that everyone who can play their games can also be online at all, but that simply ain't the case. Their strategy cuts out a sizeable proportion of the population from even playing their games.

Unless, of course, there's a LEGAL way to avoid the net connection altogether...?

Steam is good now, stop complaining... it was way worse a few years ago.

Vivendi doesn't like Steam...

Any way, I like Steam, and it feels good knowing that HL2 is successful. Despite their shortcomings, the people at Valve are still very talented, competent, and creative, and it would have been rather sad if things funked up for them.

Maybe people need to learn how to read the REQUIREMENTS on the side of the box...

My mod sense is tingling, for suggesting spam of a d3 forum you will be warned and this will be closed :p

It's true, Steam is HL2's major downside. But why would you want to bash Doom 3? it's just as good as HL2.

Hell NO! Steam is good. Steam is great. If Steam doesn't work, it's YOUR fault! (it works for the rest of us, and its the same thing, right?).

HL2 quite simply rocked.

As for the Doom 3 forums... its a nice idea, but we wouldn't like it if they spammed the hl2 forums would we? we'd get bad carma

what i mean is steam sucks on dial up internet. It's all very good and well if you have jetstream. It's all that updating.

I agree with you guys i like steam. I have no problem with it. It pisses me off when people talk about how the HL2 install destoryed HL2 chance at being a great game, just think about the positives No more CDs, alot harder to pirate, and you can pay the people who made the game.

Steam USED to suck, it's ok now, as for HL2, Doom 3's flashlight is just a puny critter compared to the majestic magnificence of the crowbar! :D

Well the game has sold very well, its a hit amongst the players and it seems to be winning a lot of praise from the industry (magazines and developers alike). So yeah. HL2 prevailed.

Steam is only good for those who have excellent connections. Those others who have dial-ups are completely driven mad by steam.

Steam acts as a very unstable person.

1 - I buy a 10 hour internet card.
2 - I start installing steam.
3 - Installation progress and updating goes on for about 30 minutes.
4 - Unlocking of HL2 begins.
5 - Takes about 40 minutes.
6 - Updating HL2, takes about 40 minutes.
7 - Want to start CSS for LAN and Bot purposes.
8 - Needs more than an hour to complete.
9 - I download a mod, and install it.
10 - Steam tells me it needs to be run online first.
11 - I run my poor dial-up connection.
12 - Steam wouldn't run properly because of the low speed.
13 - Windows tells me that steam isn't responding
14 - I end the steam task
15 - I run steam again.
16 - Same thing happens.
17 - I wait for some time.
18 - It worked!
19 - But wait, what's this?
20 - Steam is scanning for updates.
21 - Stays for 20 JUST SCANNING FOR UPDATES!
22 - I close the internet connection and steam.
23 - I run steam in offline mode.
24 - GUESS WHAT?! HALF-LIFE 2 AND DEATHMATCH AND COUNTER-STRIKE ALL DON'T WORK OFF-LINE ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!
25 - My internet account is fading.
26 - I must get HL2 working before I go to collage where there is no internet connections or even telephone lines!
27 - I suppose that this will start all over again if a person like me accidently runs steam while the dial-up connection is running.

CONCLUSION: STEAM IS TOTALLY/COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE FOR THOSE NOT HAVING A POWERFUL CONNECTION ALL THE TIME!

My friend has dialup on his pc. He bought HL2 online, i copied the GCF files from my laptop to his PC.

Everything unlocked in resonable time, nothing crashed, everything hunky-doorey.
