After just poping my head over at the planethalife i noticed something. New patchs for steam that not only allow you to play offline... but also to pay for games.....

Could it be that CZ was delayed till they could get steam finished for halflife 2 and that CZ will be the ginipig? This isnt speculation becuase you are all thinking it.... CZ gets delay after delay, now along with that it will have a survey for halflife 2.

Could it be that Hl2 is closer than we think?

It looks like they are going to see how the STEAM holds up aginst the people wanting to play CZ, it would be funny if they only released like 2 copies per store so that everyone would use steam:x

I believe it will be sooner then summer, as It seems the steam updates and stability is what they were really waiting for

I forsee it holiday season 04. But - I am not an employee of Valve, so when it comes down to it ... I don't know jack.

Is Steam what they were waiting for or was it the game itself? *Pondering*

I still think April because the alternative sucks too much to really believe. Im not quite as pessimistic as the rest of you, I think that new screenie in EGM and this talk of STEAM updates are signs that Valve is almost ready to release

Im just wondering, their are like 6 major titles coming out within 2 months of eachother... What will valve do... release during the war or after the war?

i think either way it will come out on top

I dont know how many times I have to say it, hl2 can release ANY TIME and sell like the SH!T

Gabe said that it is high likely release on Nov 2004.

Source please?

I will not believe anything HL2-release related until I see it as a headline on gamespy or something that says "HL2 is one week away from release" and VALVe has like a big press release on it, explaining everything. All I know is that when the box of HL2 is finally inside the car heading home, it will get its own safety belt.

(Image Gordon on the box with that blank expression on his face and he's sitting in the car seat next to me with a safety belt on. lol, makes me laugh.)

Heh, I will be temped to cut class if it's released on one of the days I am at school :)

No, Half-Life 2 will not be out sooner than we think. (We think about 5 months from now it will be out)

End of discussion.

I've said for awhile that I thought Steam was the main culprit behind the CS:CZ and HL2 delays. I stand by that theory. No matter what, I still don't think we'll see HL2 any sooner than fall 2004.

After E3 seems likely. They want to try to get some more awards for the game BEFORE it comes out :(

It will be released at Easter, now that would be symbolic and ironic

The second coming of our protaganist hero Gordon Freeman!!! He's alive!!!!

Think about it, Freeman will be the hero of the fans, as much as Christ is to the christian Faith

Not to mention the fact it's long term sales where valve will make the most of there money on HL2 if HL was anything to go by.

/me thinks that HL2 should be released 1 day earlier on steam to encourage the growth of steam. /me also thinks that putting a seatbelt around HL2 box would scratch it, and cause more damage than it would prevent in the event of an accidenté.

I always speculated that they're delaying Half-Life 2, CS: CZ, and all their other games because their deployment platform isn't ready for prime-time yet.

Maybe (read, "I'm a speculating dumbhead -- but") they probably don't want to tell the gaming industry that they've paused some of their most eagerly awaiting games because of another hair-brained distribution platform of their's.

Didn't they already try one... PowerPlay or something? But, just to keep optimistic, I really... Really like Steam. It's turning out to be a very neat platform.

So, yes. With the advent of the new additions to Steam, I'd speculate (read, "I'm talking out of my butt, however") that Half-Life 2 is going to be underway (read, "under development once again") once steam is really, really ready.

Thank you.

it will be so weird if the game is released in a few days... thee isnt much hype atm, no one will be ready for it. lol probly take a few days to sink in

I believe that by mid June we'll be playing Half-Life 2. If they're gonna show HL2 at E32004, practically it'll be a finished game. It will allready be going gold. One month after that HL2 is in the shelves. If we won't see new videos in two months from now, then there won't be any, because what would be the point of releasing a new video when the game is almost in the shelves
