First off, I don't remember if similar topics were posted 203 or 205, lost track. Anyhow, engine competitions are getting quite hot.

Far cry is out of the question, since HL2's engine is definatly alot better in various ways, and will probably work better on slower systems.

Unreal and Doom's advantage over Half-life's seems to be in their fantastic lighting and shadowing system.

And to me, I see that Unreal has gets better physics and lighting/shadowing system then Doom's, but probably Doom's preformance will be the best of all three.

Half-life's physics system seems to be best of them.

Half-life's modeling and texturing together seem to be as flawless as it can be, and probably the best of the games.

Oh look honey, another graphics comparison post!

Far cry is still pretty and great fun though, .. besides ive seen two threads like this in the last week, lol.. no worries though,... ' runs away'

Horrible comparison. Obviously Unreal 3 has the best graphics HOWEVER it won't be out until 2006 and is therefor not relevant. As for Doom 3 vs. HL2 graphics, I'm not going to touch this one with a 30 foot pole.

Exactly, you cannot compare games that are coming out this year, and a game that is coming out in 2006.

Plus Source is going to comtinue to evlove and add new things to it, so we will see where it is around the time Unreal 3 comes out.

Half-Life 2 will be the best becuase it uses better shaders and lighting (both lightmaps and D-lights) and thus doesn't look mostly all generic ie all shiny like doom 3. Thats all I'm going to say. You can't compare games that aren't out yet

I haven't seen enough of Doom III to vote...I've only seen like three of the official 1600x1200 screenshots

I voted for everything. Does that make me a bad person?

P.S. Closing in 5...

When Unreal III is released, it'll obviously be the best of them in terms of graphics, since it'll be designed to make full use of Geforce fx 10600 in year 2006.

also what is the deal with the Performance/Engine_power? they're opposites...atleast how I see it....

Then why this thread! for crying out loud, these vs. threads always pop up and they are always aobut the same games. Stop the madness people, STOP IT!

Each game (excluding Unreal 3) has it's own advantages and disadvantages. Doom 3 could possibly have better lighting/shading techniques, while HL 2 has much better phsyics. Again, we WON'T know until BOTH games are out.

What I like with the Doom III engine is the amazing environments and shadows it can show, some of the high-resolution screen shots look very real, and this does its job since the game is about horror in outer space.

The Unreal 3 engine has some amazing graphics and effects, it looks almost photo realistic. However it will take a while before we'll get to see that stuff in games, about 2-3 years or something.

The Half-Life 2 engine is very great aswell, and I think we've yet to see all the graphical effect it is actually capable of. And the HDR lightning effect is amazing, since that means more realistic lightning and as Valve said in the early days, this is a huge difference in outdoor environments.

Just for the sake of it. I knew I'd get complaints about this, but I want to see what will results be.

Take an old low quality game in terms of graphics, such as Halo PC, it'll be slow on the most modern computers, with bad graphics. Take a game such as....whatever good game you do know, and you'll find it's preformance and graphics better.

Bit of a silly thread, been done so many times before. This one is not only comparing three games that haven't even been released, but also comparing two of them to one which is years away/ahead of the other two.
