Hi
I just set up a rig so i can play hl no steam I have done this with XP 64 bit

the system is good it is stable, it is a newer system which was built for vista.

I had several XP rigs running hl but just got a sweet deal on this phenom 64 x4.
and thought that xp 64 bit would be sweet with 8 gig .

anyway when i start HL it says not enough mem!!!

help

thank you

Why would you play it without Steam? Download Steam and you'll have the latest version and it will probably fix your problem.

You are talking about Half-Life 1, right?

The question is not about if it is easy to work with steam.

you ask why i would well I guess you did not start playing HL in 1998.

steam is fine for hl2 some things are just not the same with steam.
thanks for your help , but if any one can help I am still looking for the answer to problem stated

Oh by the why I have a steam acount running on my window 7 rig

I did start playing HL in 98, actually. I guess if you have your reasons for staying away from steam, there's not much else I can suggest.

I miss waiting in a two hour queue on gamespy waiting for the latest version to download.

Also Smallpox.

No, if I'd had a premium subscription to Gamespy there would 'be no problem'. Print Magazines didn't materialise the second an important patch was released*. Oh, and there would still be the problem that I was paying for a subscription.

*It takes at least half-an-hour to play, research and review a game for PC Gamer.

Yeah, if you were eager to get the patch. I wasn't that eager back then though.

No Steam, no help. It's even on sale right now on Steam, yeesh.
