I'm not trying to be all 'OMG CONSPRIACIEEEE' here, because this is obviously just a coincidence.
Today I noticed a plot pattern throughout the Half-Life games. This applies only to the Gordon Freeman games, and not Blue Shift or Opposing Force.
There are two types of HL plots: Sabotage and rescue, and stopping reinforcements.
HL1 was "stopping reinforcements", you had to stop more Xen aliens from coming to Earth.
HL2 was "sabotage and rescue" - you had to destroy the Citadel, and rescue Eli.
Episode One is a stretch, you could say it was "sabotage and rescue", but in reality it just doesn't fit into the pattern.
Episode Two was "stopping reinforcements", you had to stop more Combine from coming to Earth.
Episode Three appears to be "sabotage and rescue", you have to rescue Mossman, and (if you do what Eli said) destroy the Borealis.
If only Episode One fit in I would be hailed as a genius worldwide.
