Heres anouther comparison pic of Half Life vs Half Life Source

hlspic.jpg

Note the remapped area, with displacement mapping, water and improved lighting.

Wow, reflective, difracting water placed among 1998(?) graphics :p

lol well if that post was aimed at mine then read again, Don't see "MUCH" of a difference ... hence the much there

The ground has been remapped, the textures are clearer, the lighting is better, the water is better, there is a sand texture blended with the ground texture. and a new barrel. The top is HLS and the bottom HL

Now all we need is some to post a comparison picture Half-Life 1 and BM: S.

I can't see any difference except for the water effect and the shape of the rocks. Wish the two shots were taken from the same spot.

The Half Life one is looking at where you are standing in HLS

Which isn't particularly useful for a comparison shot.

Just been looking through the other comparison shots and i have to say, in my opinion i really cannot see too much of a difference between any of them, ok the water is an easy one to spot and the lighting but the textures overall just look too similar.

that's because there should be almost no difference
you do know that hl source is hl1 with ragdolls and source water only?
play it then...........it's still great - mainly because it is hl1

how long have you been gone?
wait i just checked your posts - you havent been gone....0.o

There was a cybernetic ape revolution. They were all wielding nunchucks and they easily took over the entire world in 7 hours.

Other than that: still waiting for BMS to be released and do a better job than hl1:s did.

WHAT YEAR IS THIS?! WHOS THE PRESIDENT?!

GARRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! *Leaps into ravine*

WHAT HAVE I DONE!!

Shouldn't Black Mesa Source be due for an update? It's been two months ...

The core gameplay is complete, but it's not at a stage where you can run through the entire game. One of the level designers can't even say if you can run through a single level.
It will be a slow process, but worth the wait.

Slow process, fine. I just want to see updates on their site!

I think he's trying to point out that parts have been remapped.

It would be nice if BM wasn't all identical to HL1, to be honest id be more pleased if there were some things different and made the experience have a new "mood", it's like remixxes of songs- still the same thing, just new beat..

Um, Dowie, typically a comparison pic tries to have the same (or close to the same) location and orientation. In YOUR comparison, the player is at opposite ends of the creek, and you're looking at the map from a very different angle. Plus, the shots are such a low resolution that you can't see anything. Here's an example of a better comparison shot:

As it is, it is virtually impossible to tell the difference between your HL and HLS pics, aside from the fact that the water has improved. Sorry, you failed.

(oh, and there is NO displacement mapping)

I still stick by my previous comment of i can hardly see a difference, ok, textures slightly improved but overall, id rather play the original :rolling:

Whats the highest resolution that HL:S offers? If I remember correctly, the original could only go up to 1280x964... Anyway the pictures look good, and I want to play the Source version, although I bought HL2 in the store. Great game on a solid engine, best of all, _everyone_ should be able to run it and get FPS through the roof! That's a lot more refreshing than games which run like crap for the first year their released, because most people can't afford $500 graphics cards...

Seeing as it runs on the Source engine, you should be able to play in 2048x1536 in HL: S also...
