So was the original half life conceived as a multi-part game? I don't know if it's been covered before, but i did a search and didn't come up with anything useful.
If so, then it would bode well for the development time of HL3, since source probably took the majority of the time to build, hence the long development time. HL3 shouldn't take as long to develop, since the story should be pretty well fleshed out.
It's funny, i had a dream last night about playing the game (yeah, i know, i'm reading these forums too much). Anyway, in my dream, they had a monster from Xen trapped in a containment unit, and the only way they (the scientists) could interact with it, is to expose it to a weak radioactive substance. The scientist that was releasing the isotope told me, "We've got to be careful with this stuff. It doesn't last very long, and we've only got a limited supply. It has a very short half-life."
