Having trouble in Black Mesa East

I've done the following of the npcs in Black Mesa East, played with the doggy, and then have been forced up a corridor towards Ravenholme. Now I find myself at the bottom of a shaft, and the bottom of a ladder upwards is covered over with wire mesh.

I figured that I needed to use my new gravity gizmo to stack up crates and whatever else is lying around so that I could climb up and over the meshy bit and onto the ladder.

Well, that's what I've done... it appears that my stack of junk goes higher than the mesh, both looking from the bottom and from atop it. The ladder is straight in front of me, but Gordy won't go up. I've tried taking a step back and then walking forward again, taking a step back and jumping at it, shuffling a little to the left, a little to the right.... well, you get the idea. Anyway, no joy. What am I missing?

Or you could just rip the lock off the ladder.

I used the crowbar to whack the lock on the ladder, however the cage that covers the ladder did not move to I wacked it and walked into it a vfew times and it swung open.

Don't worry, you'll have plenty of time to use the grav gun later.

Lol, oh boy my face is red. I'm finding crate stacking problems where none exist... Time for me to take a break I think.

That airboat post was the funniest thing to be posted in this forum. Still makes me laugh now. That poor guy!

My favorite "Help, I'm stuck!" problem is a friend of a friend (heh) who was stuck at the crane in Highway 17.

You know that part where you're supposed to lift the buggy up onto the dock and then drive it through a window?

It never occured to him to drive through the window, so he spent literally ten hours either trying to stack dumpsters to get over the fence, or to toss the buggy over the roof of the building.

Too bad I told him how to fix it over AIM. I would have loved to have seen the look on his face.

Yea the guy who was swimming thru the canals made me laugh for hours, I mean it took me about 2 hours to finish it with the damn boat, I cant even imagine walking all that, especially in the toxic water and when the Combine Gunship shoots at you.
