Havoc, Source confussion.

When I heard pre-release stuff about HL2 they talked about the Havoc (or Havok?) engine but after it was released it sudenly became the Source engine, what's the story?
Sorry if this has been discused before or if this is a stupid question.

Havoc is the physics engine. It's a 3rd party middleware physics solution.

Source is the name for the engine proper.

the havok engine is part of the source engine, it governs things such as ragdoll and is used in many games.
however the havok engine is only a part of what we call the source engine which is the primary engine developed by valve and the version of the havok engine that exists in source has been modified alot by valve for the source engine.

i hope that clears it up a bit but i am sure others can elaborate
