hd question

does your life depend on getting an answer from us????

yes, if i buy the wrong thing and it doesnt work then i cant do my work and wont get paid and cant buy food then i will die of starvation

why dont you ask tech guys and not a forum im not trying to flame you or anyting i just think you would get more info from them then us

If the connectors are the same, then I assume a SATA 2 controller IS backwards compatible with SATA 1, don't quote me on this, its very likely I am wrong.

What actually uses SATA 2 anyway?

SATA 2 is just faster. 3Gb/sec rather than 1.5Gb/sec.

And, I reckon you could use them together... though don't quote me on that ;)

Same connection. They will work together.

I thought my S-ATA was 150MB/s (or is it Mbps?) while normal IDE goes up to 133MB/s

Is it Bytes or Bits?

Well, 1.5Gbit/sec is just a bit more than 150MBytes/sec

Big B= Bytes
little b= bits

There is quite some difference:

8 bits to a byte

1.5Gbps = 187.5MB/s

150MB/s = 1.2Gbps
