I just finished Ravenholm, and a question came to mind....how are there new types of headcrabs? That would require evolution...which requires reproduction....which means poison and fast Gonarchs..eek.

Well since they are used by the combine as a weapon now to keep the world outside the citys unsafe, I would assume they just geneticly re-engineered them so they would become better weapons.

Ofcourse this is purely speculation but i think its a good guess.

Don't use the word evolution in here, you may offend someone. LOL, good thought thou. Their prolly all just test tube products anyhow.

I think that the Combine may have modified the Headcrabs to be more effective.

I still wonder where they got the 'crabs from. More than one Gonarch? Cloning of existing samples?

I also think that it's more likely that the the two new varities are genetically modified from the base forms, rather than being the offspring of alternate Gonarchs.

I reckon they found them on Xen/Earth, and decided that they'd make a good bioweapon.

The two new varieties may be genetically engineered by the Combine, but the way the Black Headcrabs form a colony on one host kinda makes me think "natural evolution". I don't think, however that they evolved all of a sudden. I'm wondering if the Black and Fast crabs aren't regional species variations from different parts of Xen. Maybe the part of Xen that was overlapping with Black Mesa during the incident only had one sort, while other areas have several...

I wouldn't discount the "engineered" idea completely, though. Seems Kleiner might have been wondering, too. The dude has a thing for headcrabs, first a pet, and if you look, you can also find some notes on them in his lab.

I reckon Black and Fast Gonarchs would be wicked...

i think its what brain damage said because its pretty obvious they are a good weapon and the combine shell stuff with them.
