hey guys, we desperately need an unwrapper, recently we have finished another two models, away from the public eye, and we're on the way to another. so far we have nothing skinned, not even unwrapped, and now because we are behind our schedule, us modellers dont want to have to spend time learning how to unrwap.

we are also kind of in need of another modeler and another skinner, preferably able to unwrap.

if you are interested in either positions, then we are interested. you can visit our site and contact us via the forums, PM me here, or even catch me on MSN.

I would recommend your modellers to just learn how to UV map. It is extremely simple, really. It just takes practice to get better at it. If they want even a slight chance of making it into the game industry they better be able to UV map. Just like I better get off my ass and practice character modelling and skinning.

It's not difficult, just tedious. Since textures are 2D planes assigned to a 3D surface, you have to virtually unwrap the 3D surface into a 2D plane, which determine the UV coordinates. The coordinate system used to describe the placement and transformation of texture maps has to be different from the X, Y, and Z axis coordinates used in 3D space. These coordinates use the letters U, V, and W. U is the equivalent of X, V is the equivalent of Y, W is the equivalent of Z. What you would do is unwrap the 3D model into a 2D plane and apply a UV map, then you must put it back together. The 2D, unwrapped representation of the 3D surface is then exported into an image and you can paint the texture on this image.

Here's a video of me UV mapping something, it's helped a couple people I know.
