You need Counter-Strike: Source for older versions of Garry's Mod.

to get gmod 10 you will have to pay ?5 or $10
you need counter strike:source to play gmod 9

I would recommend paying the $10 for the newest version of Gmod10, GMOD9 is discontinued and not updated anymore. Plus you get more npcs, free updates, download all the addons you want with GM10. It will be the best $10 used game wise.
