Hullo. I've been wanting to fiddle around with mediawiki for awhile. As such, I've installed it on a spare bit of hosting I have. I'm aiming for Halflife 2 centric content so here I am telling you about it. :)

For those of you who don't know what mediawiki is, look here. For those of you who can't be bothered to click, its basically an encyclopedia thats editable by the user (ie, you lot).

I'll do the housekeeping however for it to be useful it needs people to go and write content for it. Its dead easy to do and its all controlled via your browser. Shout me if you need help. Either contact me here or on IRC.

Click here to go look at the HL2 Wikipedia. I'll see how it goes, if there's no interest then I'll shut it down. On the other hand it might take off and be a useful resource. What happens is really up to you lot. Have fun and don't break anything.

hmm, don't really see the point of one if there's already one out there

yes, the main wikipedia aims to hold information on everything. My aim with this is to have more fine grained information by keeping it specific. eg. you could flick through the HL2wiki and learn how to level edit. or if a paticular mod was any good.

Feel free to contribute. :)

I was more interested in everyones opinions of it as an idea, rather than its current content.

seems like it would be quite easy to abuse :O

Speaking of .dev, where is it? Have you guys been working on it since the site has been down?

It seems a little pointless tbh. Level designing is monopolised by VERC, and there must be hundreds of FAQs on loads of popular websites that detail everything a newcomer might need to know. Similar to what SM said, the spoilage would be awful.

But, if you want to go ahead anyway then good luck!

I have exactly the same controls the main wiki site has and they seem to manage with vastly more vandalism that I do (currently Starmonkey and onions fiddling with the main page). There's a lot of scope for abusing the abusers and avoiding the abuse in the first place.

As for the hundreds of FAQ's and websites, surely it would be better if all the information was in one place? :)

:D Are there tutorials? I want to mod, but I am a stupid git when it comes to HL. ;(
