help i am a computer/ Half life noob

i just baught Half Life 2 Goty. and i went through the install. all 5 discs seemed to instal just fine. however once i pressed finish the error message:

Steam.exe (main exception): Unable to load library Steam.dll

thus not letting me put in my key code or anything. does anyone know how to fix this bc this message pops up on all menu items when clicked.

You are a computer? Fix your own damn self!

You have to install Steam first... and run Steam before you try to run HL2.

i did install steam, i also downloaded it off their website.

Maybe if you reinstall Steam?

i have uninstalled and and reinstalled it and it is not working still....apperantly there are alot of ppl having this problem. i was looking on another support site and there are tons of ppl that need help. but so far valve hasnt came up with a fix

Well, it's obviously a problem on your side rather than Valve's as Steam works fine on all of ours.

Hmm I would try to install steam from the normal downloaded version then install hl2 from the discs, thus not using the cd version of steam. Do I make sence?
