Hi guys, first off - excellent forum, thanks for the help some of you gave me a few months ago trying to sort out a bug i had in HL2.

Anyway, basically i've now completed HL2, and episodes 1 and 2, as well as the brilliant Portal. I was just wondering if there is anything else... out there? I downloaded Lost Coast via Steam for free as I have an ATI graphics card, and that kind of wetted my appetite for more action.

Are there any well known mods? or multiplayer sections? I've been playing a few of the Deathmatches online, but to be honest, i'm looking for one maybe where you can only use the Gravity Gun, but all the ones i've seen are a little pointless as it's "here's a rocket launcher, respawn respawn respawn" basically.

Anyway, thanks a lot for any help.

Well, I'm in a clan for Empires, an RTS / FPS -hybrid. Pretty damn awesome, especially with some friends. Here's a HL2.net article about it: link

The current version is 2.12 and boasts even more features than you can read in that article. I recommend you read the Manual first (available here) before you jump in, because otherwise you'll miss a lot of the cool features. The Research Appendix is only interesting if you want to try you hand at commanding, though.

None of the current SP mods are really that great quality-wise (Minerva comes close to HL2, though), and none of them are all too long length-wise. Try GMOD.

No, i've contemplated doing that but i think i'd probably end up snuffing it at one point and getting really annoyed lol.

I have thought about trying to do the gravity gun mission you guys have mentioned here before, is it where you do the entire game from Ravenholm with the gravity gun only?

By the way thanks for the suggestions guys, Minerva looks interesting.

you can allways get half life 1, Half Life: Opposing Force (which i am currently trieng to complete), and Half Life: Blue Shift.
the grafix don't make the game, the game itself does.

oh, and "Point of View" (half life 1 mod) is a good mod if you can get it to work. Took forever for me to get it working, but it was worth it. :)

Minerva Minerva Minerva. No doubt about it, absolutely brilliant mod.

Mods
-MINERVA: Metastasis
The creme de la creme. Seriously, the level design and pacing in MINERVA rivals the best of Valve's work.
-Awakening
An "Opposing Force 2". The voice acting is questionable at times, but the gameplay is good and the settings are unique, which is refreshing in a sea of City 17 clones. Besides, it has a freaking zombie-infested sub pen!
-Causality Effect
A mod with a "what if?" storyline in which the chapter "A Red Letter Day" went very differently.
-Combine Destiny
Puts you in the Combine's boots. The gameplay is pretty good but gets monotonous at times. Map design is good.
-Riot Act
This is basically more Nova Prospekt, and who can complain about that? That was the best chapter in HL2 in my opinion. Highly recommended.

Maps
-Night of a Million Zombies Waterfront
The second in a series of three maps, NOAMZ puts you in an arena with a crowbar, an HEV suit, all of the weapons from the game scattered around for you to find, a limitless supply of zombies and a kill counter. As killfests go this is surprisingly good.
-Das Roboss
A series of three or four maps, this is second only to MINERVA in my opinion. It's that good. The level design is quality all the way through, the gameplay is very well paced and the finale is unprecedented. Definitely worth a look.
-Combine Onslaught
A "hold the fort" defence map. The scenery is pretty bare bones, but the gameplay is surprisingly good and it's great for a blast or for honing combat skills against increasingly tough enemies.
-'Return of the Resistance' by Source Maps Collective
A series of maps with a simple storyline, but the gameplay and map design is good and the atmosphere is reminiscent of Anticitizen One and Follow Freeman in HL2.

There was that antlion defense map... the one inspired by Starship Troopers...

Antlion Troopers Deuce! That was excellent.

Garry's Mod will keep you busy for a while.

If you haven't played Half Life 1, DO IT NOW!!! Your life will never be complete without it. :)

Go play TF2, end of story...

Also be on the lookout for the Half-Life Short Stories mod that is coming out. Independently made high quality mods with their own story lines in the HL2 universe.
Then there is always Black Mesa Source to look forward to.

Also, as stated earlier empires is a pretty good multiplayer mod, it's really improved over time.

Hi guys, thanks again for all the suggestions. Oh and just to say, i have played Half Life 1 lol. It's one of the greatest games ever made. I would think anyone on this forum should have played it, many, many times.

Minerva is excellent though, first mod i've downloaded and it's like playing another chapter of HL2 to me, really excellent. Thanks again.

I'll try some of the other suggestions soon, cheers guys.
