HELP!!!! My framerate droped like crazy

O.k I was gonna play CS:S and then my framerate was horrible. Same as half-life 2 and hl1:source. Whats the deal? I did a video stree test and yesterday it was around 70 fps and now it dropped to 23 fps. What gives? :frown:

Either something sucked up your memory or your HD space.

Maybe Steam is having indigestion, but my framrerate and latency has been steadily dropping with every update.

That's a big sudden drop for you, though.
Maybe your connection isn't optimzed or some network options were reset or something.

What do you mean? So something is maybe sucking up my ram or my hard drive space? Also is there a way to change it? Should I get more ram or shoulf I restart my computer or what?

You should diagnose your system to see if that is even the case.

Minimize HL2 or CSS or whatever and open up your task manager, see if anything is using a lot of cpu power.

Check your ram readouts. Make sure they haven't got bad sectors. If your OS reads them as normal capacity they are fine.

I don't know enough about your computer to pinpoint what could be slowing it down.

When you load your game, make sure having the console active. The first list of messages the console displays should be a summary of your computer specs. You should also be able to read the heapsize. How big is it?

Well, it often just takes half of your RAM as default. Or maybe it's 1/4 th :|
