CRUCIAL UNIT!!! Good call!! I got their split with Municipal Waste and These Colors Get the Runs and they are both insane!!

That said, my recommendation is to check out Municipal Waste. You will have a hard time listening to anything better. Fast, aggressive, alcohol-fuelled thrashiness!!!

Godsmack's new single is really good, I bet their album is worth buying. I'm a big Tool fan as well.

Nine Inch Nails. Some of their stuff is, melodical sure, but songs like 'You Know What You Are?' are just insane.

Aye, I got the split with MW and Premium Iced Tea, but I recently saw Everything Went Strunk in our local CD store so I'll pick that up at some point. Brilliant band - make me smile everytime, espeically the album lenghts. I got through Premium Iced Tea today just walking to my bus stop alone. Still great thrashtastic stuff, though.

Gotta agree with the Municipal Waste recommendation though. Deffo seems like the right band you are looking for under 'fast' (understatement..) Go see them live, too.

I'm also going to suggest Overkill - because they rock and I've just put on Bloodletting for the first time in ages.

Dude, In Flames!! By far the best modern metal band :D

In fact i'll give you a small list of bands that havent been recommended yet

1. In Flames
2. Soilwork
3. Rammstein
4. Arch Enemy

Thats all i can think of atm, but yeah. Definately check out In Flames!!

Seriously, some of you are recommending bands that aren't even anywhere near being metal.

Another great metal band from the Bay Area is Killing Spree. They have that great Bay Area thrash sound, but with a modern flair that makes them one of the more unique bands out right now, especially given the metal scene today....

Another band to check out (though their EP isn't out quite yet) is Exit to Eternity. I saw them play in Brooklyn a few times and they stole the show each time! Dmitriy is the tiniest little drummer you have ever seen but he flies around the set pounding everything in his path--righteous talent there.

I wouldn't really call Mogwai or Sigur Ros metal. Can't say I've heard Mercury Rev though.

However, if you want metal that is similar to these, try Pelican.

I know, very unmetaly(made up a word:) )

I can't really remember why I put them down:x

Regardless of them not being metal, eceryone should go check out both the latest albums by them both. Mogwai - Mr. Beast and Sigur Ros - (). Amazing.

Aye, shame it just isn't the Dead Kennedys anymore. :( No Biafra, no DK. I'd love to see them in a small venue with Biafra. Ahhh...

I know. Brandon Cruz was cool...when he focusing on Dr. Know in the 80s. DK touring without Jello is like Queen touring without Freddie. ;( Utterly sad and money-grubbing.

Fear Factory, Disturbed, and Nine inch nails are my favorites you should listen to them or at least try it

Never forget the masters of Swedish metal:MESHUGGAH
Their work is purely genius. If you can, get the guitarists cd, Fredrik Thordendal's Special Defects.

Oh and I'm surprised no one has mentioned Lamb of God in here. Definitely pure American metal.

alot of the bands others listened are good

dimmu borgir
devildriver
trivium
strapping young lad
behemoth
unearth
old man's child
dark tranquility
bloodsimple
god forbid

are a few of my previously unlisted faves

Good bands in that "loud" category that you must listen to right now, and by that I mean right now:
  • Amon Amarth
  • Behemoth
  • Absu
  • Aura Noir
  • Carcass
  • Children of Bodom
  • Darkane
  • Death
  • Deströyer 666
  • Edge of Sanity
  • Fear Factory (older is better)
  • Finntroll
  • Gorguts
  • Hypocrisy (everything but the Catch 22 album)
  • In Flames (anything before the Clayman album is good; rest is crappy)
  • Kataklysm
  • Morbid Angel
  • Necrophagist
  • Nile
  • Shadows Fall
  • SuidAkrA
  • Vader
This list is what you need right now. Throw in Bolt Thrower, Bloodbath, Decapitated, Demigod, Immolation and Impaled and you're absolutely golden.

Nightwish or Dragonforce for something interesting.
I was going to suggest that, you fiend!

And I hate metal!

I know about Bolt Thrower, Bloodbath, Decapitated, and Immolation, but aside from a few clips here and there, I really don't know enough about them to recommend them. However, Bolt Thrower and Bloodbath seemed really good from what I did hear.
Bolt Thrower, Bloodbath and Impaled are slices of superbly-played DM, with Decapitated leaning towards Technical and Immolation Brutal. Still, I'd absolutely recommend them myself - they definitely fit into your list in terms of talent.

I would throw in Impaler instead, but I am not as into the deathy stuff as I am the thrashy stuff....

Impaled are pretty good - one of the only gore metal bands to whom I give the time of day.
