I'm on the first level where we get onto this elevator where I have to shoot an energy ball into the "thing" to make it work. As we go down, glass falls and then all of a sudden we're falling and then we die. I tried reading walthrough's where it says shoot the glass but nothing happens when I look up and shoot it. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Sean

shoot the debris directly with gravity gun only. (primary attack)
Maybe its a glitch? Because I try shooting with the gravity gun at the glass coming down but nothing comes out.

Shoot the falling debris when they get really near, but not too close. And DO NOT shoot them with energy ball.

I give up. It's not working. It almost shot but I dont know what I did. I try shooting the debris when its high, when its low, moving the gravity gun back and forth, like crazy. I don't know. This one seems complicated and aggravating. lol.

I try to say this as non-offensively as I can but it seems like you've been softened by modern burger generation games so much that even the simplest tasks that require some puzzle solving related skill (timing in this case) are way too complex for you.

I would hardly call this a puzzle and It's not about complexity. I'm sure its the easiest thing and I'm just not getting it. I had a couple of those in Half Life 2. But when I'm constantly dieing every 5 seconds hearing glass shatter and then falling to my death gets pretty annoying after a while. It's not like it gives you time to think about what to do or a hint at what your suppose to do.

EDIT: Okay, I figured it out but I have no clue how it worked.

It's called problem solving :)
I died once in there (well twice actually because I had a mishap with one falling piece) and then solved the problem in a few seconds. If you're having problems, you can always lower the difficulty though. It'll affect the amount of debris falling (and possibly the speed its falling too).

Yea. Thanks for the help. I cant say enough for this board. You guys reply "like that!". Thanks

Yes, I want some puzzles that are complex in HL2 episodes, not this kind of suckin' thing which tests for your agility. I hate it! This debris-falling stuff is brainless.

Yeah, yeah. dont rub it in! :P

It was actually quite easy when I started doing it properly!!

instead of shooting the falling debris, i grab it with the gravity gun & then throw the debris well away from the elevator.

Yeah, took about 2 tries to realise that was the easier option.
