Help: Recent sketchy performance in TF2

Just today I started getting bad performance in TF2, but only when there were a lot of people on the screen. Has anyone else seen this? I don't think it's a hardware limitation, because until today my computer played this game just fine (and will play Crysis, for example, with all settings maxed just fine too). In the spawn point, with only one or two other people, no prob, but when it gets heated in battle with seventeen other people, I get mild lags. My ping is 30-50, depending on the server, and I experienced this across several different servers today (and have not seen this type of behavior before). Thoughts?

This happens too me as well but usually goes away around 5 minutes into the map maybe just persevere into the map until a fix is made... if a fix is made.
