Help! Switch In Control Room (prison) Wont Open Gate

Hi all,

I am stuck in the prison control room, (just after the first laser bomb) I have been told that to open the gate on the lower level i need to press the red button on the wall. But it does not respond to anything. I have tried hitting it, shooting it...infact everything apart from shagging it....(nothing happens) i have my army of spiders (do they have to do something?) or is it a bug on my computer...It is well pissing me off for the last 10 days. :|

10 days!? You coulda come after a day or so and we'll have helped you. Either find the bit in that guide, or post a screenie. It could be a bug in the game, but likely you are doing something wrong

Why is the bottom of your hud missing?

You press that red button in the control room and the gate *should* open. Must either be a glitch of you're using a warezed copy. Try reloading the current map. Go into the console by pressing ~ (if it doesn't work, enable it in Options/Keyboard/Advanced), and the map name will show up in small letters in the top right corner of the screen. Take note of that map name and type map name_of_map_here in the console and press enter. This will reload the current map, it might fix the problem.

Not warez, i have an original copy. Advice sounds good, i will try that..

Must be warez, these bugs only happen in dodgy games and the hud missing is very suspicious...shame on you.

no, hectic glenn, it is not warez, the screen shots were 134kb and 164kb respectively and the limit for posting is 100kb - so i cut out the outer boundaries in MS Paint. I am against warez as much as the next game loving person and i always pay my way. I had half life 2 on pre order 1 month before its release.

Good to hear it, but most people simply reduce the whole size of the picture, just cropping it down a bit...this is seems very suspicious, and this has happened before and been due to warez. Enjoy the rest of your game and...dont do drugs

glad thats sorted, i will reduce all of the picture in future (can ms paint resize?). I am kinda new to these forums and only just found out you could take screen shots.

Here's a nifty little utility for Windows XP that lets you resize a picture very quickly.

Cheers Rast, i will look into that link, and many thanks to Dilute for the fix - HL2 is working fine now. Sorry to hectic glenn (how hectic is he) for not having my invoice for HL2 close to hand.

If nothing else works, you can do the following...

-Bring down the console
-type "sv_cheats 1"
-then type "noclip"
-You will then be able to fly through all objects.
-When you get to where you need to be, make sure you are in empty air and type "noclip" again to get your feet back on the floor
