Help with changing fps and ping and...

A friend of mine came by and started changing alot of stuff "so the game would run better". He typed things in the console, im a newbie at this and have always played the game as it came, without changing stuff, except for the keyboard and mouse and stuff. Then he came and screwed it all up! Something happened, it was much better before he did his things. And now i got this little thing in the right lower corner telling me the ping and loss and that, and i dont want that, and i want to go back to the settings that was before he came. How do i do? :cheese:

well if you don't know what those changes were, then a reinstall i think is the only way
i don't think there is a command for set default
for the fps type cl_showframerate 0 or similar (you can scroll through the other cl options)

That was what i was hoping for, a thing to set default.

Actually, when i got to the server list, he told me he thought the latency was a little bit to high, and then he started changing stuff. And now the latency is WAY up on most servers. Like 400 and stuff. I don't know if this has anything to do with his changes but... As i said, i dont know jack about this stuff, so forgive me for making a fool of myself!

If you have a 1mb + connection you should really have these settings - enter them into the console

rate 20000
cl_cmdrate 80
cl_updaterate 80

if it is less well try

rate 10000
cl_cmdrate 30
cl_updaterate 30

Ok, do this:

In Windows, go here:

\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\[username]\half-life 2\hl2dm\cfg\

Find your "config.cfg" or an "autoexec.cfg" file (if it is there). Change the name of the "config" file to something else (i.e. "configO.cfg") and delete the autoexec.cfg if it is there. That should get things back to the defaults.

"net_graph 0" in the console should kill the thing in the bottom left
