Help With Gunships!

These gunships man. They're terrible. I play HL2 on Xbox, and I'm on the level before Nova Prospekt. (I think it's called Sandtraps). The part where you have three gunships coming at you with your antlions around, and the Combine is seeking you out, and you have your laser-guided launcher to take out the 3 gunships. I've been trying to beat this part for 3 weeks, and I haven't had any trouble getting thru the game until now. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yeah...went through this for 2 hrs on Xbox too... Its 2 gunships only by the way, and kill the prospket guards on the towers and climb up a stair located at the last tower, there will be 2 more guards there, throw a nade if u have 1 if not just shoot them, and break the crates hiding by corners and shoot the gunship forwhile runnig, dont worry about ammo, There will be a room, get in and charge up ur HEV and ur health then keep moving on and you will see a rubbish dump on its side grab those packs there and keep heading up some stairs there you will see medpacks and of course ammo.

That's one of the tougher points of the game for some people. I can't imagine trying to do it with a joystick. A strategy I use is to throw bug bait out into the field to distract the gunships. If they don't see you, but the ant lions are going ape in the field, they'll go after them, and you can get clean shots off. It'll also keep the bugs away from you, so when you make a break for it, they're not all in your face.

I just realised the abject horror of playing this game with anything but a mouse. Or maybe a Wii controller. There are some bits that could be utterly horrible D:

At the beginning of the gunship encounter you must move around till you find a room with a HEV charger and medkit. From there, run to the back of the building and you will find a container on it's side. Take cover inside it. There will be some stairs nearby. Climb up that and you find a rocket box. Fill up and go back to the container. When you see the gunships, fire away. Rinse, repeat.

Yes. It is impossible. No-one has been able to get past it. Ever. If anyone says they have, they are either lying, or an incredible super-human gamer, and can do what no others can. Valve made the game impossible, as a joke.

Look, what no-one seems to be telling you is two things.

1) The rockets can be controlled. Wherever you point th little red laser pointer that appears when you have the rocket launcher selected, that's where the rocket goes. You turn, it turns. You look up, it goes up. etc.
2) The gunships will shoot down your rockets. So you must either shoot the gunship when it gets quite close to you so it doesn't have time to shoot the rocket down, or you must manuvre the rocket around once you have fired it. I find that fast circle motions do the trick, drawing circles on and around the ship with the red laser targeting dot.

EDIT: They only take 3 rockets to take down.
