Ive just downloaded, installed, and updated steam, but I havent a clue how to use it.

Was told that HL2 media would be downloadable, but how do you access it?

when the media is released, will my computer automatically download it or will i have to myself?

i don't have the media box and i've restarted steam a few times today, should i have that or will it appear when the media is available?

it should automatically, if you have it running. You can set it to monitor Steam network as quickly as once per minute if you like

no, you shouldn't. The GUI's not been updated with the Media bar, yet.
