I have to choose a topic to do a talk on in english class and i have no idea what to do. It has to be an issue I have 'strong views about'. Any ideas?

Do you have anything you feel strongly about? What kind of paper is it (summary, essay, evaluation, etc.)? What grade are you in? I'm just trying to get some background. How long is the talk supposed to be?

You could always go the clichéd video games causes violence issue. It's damned overused though.

theres no specific length or anything, I just need something to write about. I dont really feel strongly about anything.

i think theres already some other people doing that

Do you play HL2? Is it better than other games? Are you sure? Why?

hehe maybe something that wont lead to me getting branded as a nerd.

thanks for the ideas though

I believe violence against women and children teaches them respect and discipline because.....

or branded as someone who needs to see a psychiatrist :p

You could do a talk on conspiracy theories surronding 9-11 (i don't believe them but some people do). I know its a contentious subject, but its pretty unique and interesting some of the theories.

Or you could choose some life in prison vs. death penalty.

What country are you from, as you could do a talk on an issue affecting it at the moment.

Worried about being branded a nerd? F*** it - you can have your revenge when you start makin' tha bucks (unless you're trying to get laid now).

What's something you know a lot about, not necessarily something you have strong feelings about? The teacher must have a point to the assignment, and there must be some kind of structure to your talk.

What's better: crumpets or toast.

EDIT: No seriously I bet you could structure a hugely amusing, mostly jokey talk around that question. Research the history of the two things and/or make stuff up: "Crumpets were originally invented in 1812 by Lord Humphrey Crumpet. It was a freak accident that occured while he was attempting to discover the secret of powered flight'.

"This essay is about exactly how and why I'm going to hack into the school mainframe and change my grade on this assignment."

Except that Toast is the obvious winner. The talk would be about 5 seconds long.

How about The new age of technology and what could happen in the future?

 i could do something like that.

some guy did one about how terrible it is that companies don't use proper chocolate on their biscuits. he got quite a good mark for it too.

but the problem is we have to write them in school so i won't be able to research or anything, and i think it has to be an issue eg. racism or fake chocolate rather than comparing things.

...ergo it should be about something you are very familiar with. Are you to present one side of an argument? Are you to summarize your 'issue'? Are you to write an essay about the issue? You can tell them about how I swallow my gum when I'm done and despite the fact that I show the pink stool samples to my girlfriend hours later, she still insists that it stays in my system for years.

In my Swedish class we were allowed to pick anything at all to hold a speech about. (It was about how to make a speech), so I picked "Quantity of Iron Ore in the city of Dresden in 1949". :D

ive decided im going to do about how there are too many adverts on telly.

erm.. does anyone know if TV companies could still make money if they cut down on adverts?

They'd probably go belly-up long term, especially the less popular ones

Don't complain, you've got it better than the US and the BBC doesn't even have adds.
