Here is how to get steam to work PERFECTLY!

Wait a few days...you people expect the program to work and download right now perfectly....the whole Half-life world is updating Steam right now and it won't finish for me because of that....WAIT A FEW DAYS.

This is the main reason why I am not downloading HL2 off steam when it comes out.

Steam is slow now because it just came out

Because the Steam network is getting hammered right now, and when millions of people try to run the same program within a short period of time, things happen that was not supposed to.

Those are the files that Steam downloads when you install a game... put those files in STEAM/STEAMAPPS.

EDIT: Now... if I could only get past the platform updating part I would be all set.

No, don't wait a few days. Use it as normal - it'll give Valve a better idea of the kind of load to expect. To ship HL2 there's going to need to be some serious improvements in bandwidth...
