Can't seem to get any help. Just got on today and wham! Steam crashes when i try to load it. Done tons of things to try to fix it except full uninstall because I would rather just format my entire hard drive that has 3 years of precious files of mine than redownload half life 2 files and others. (yeah i get the "if u formated u'd lose hl2" thats how much i don't want to download it again) Here is full description of error

AppName: steam.exe Appver: 1.0.0.0 ModName:steamui.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0008a37a

Things I've done to try to fix:
Deleted and let steam reinstall these files: steamui.dl,
clientregistry.blob, steam.dll, steamui_36.mst, steamui_10.mst,
steam.log and I some files like steamexe_100282_2004 and
other files that I think have resulted from crashing (some info
being stored cuz of bad load or something like that)
I've kept some of these files and deleted some in an infinite
combination to see if anything worked.

I tried the unwise.exe file (never understood why it was called
unwise, some dev joke that is now common name for uninstall)
I selected the repair option and said "No to all" when it asked if
I wanted to replace new files with older ones. And every time
I've done that, I've gotten a crash or an error that states
something to do with unexpected size. I'd be more informative
on what it said if i could reproduce it, but its crashed from then
on.

I remember this problem was more pandemic a few months ago
and the solution was for most people to just delete
clientregistry.blob but I had to also delete other files which now
seem not to exist anymore or have been replaced/renamed.

Much obliged

No, microsoft doesn't associate with steam.

un - Uninstaller
Wise - www.wise.com - a company that has made installers for many a year.

Oh, hmm wise eh, didn't know that. well at least i learned something new out of this post heh man i want to play some deathmatch

Well it was 2pm when i found my steam in what looked like a big pile of ****. now its 12am all day i've been workin on a possible solution to this mysterious problem that poofed out of nowhere. OH yeah i would be bitching at steam forums but i can't seem to get "authorized." so much for a customer getting a word in there.

Anyways i just want to say, guys i really hope none of u have this problem. i've never been a big steam fan but i've never been a hater either, but now i have to say that i'm totally opposed of this program. It should be called Steam Half Life 2 because they are both dependant on each other. One thing messes up and there goes the whole...isn't there a saying..something to do with all your eggs in one basket. well i'm not going to stop trying to play because its fun, but i do think this will be my last purchase from steam or valve.
The technical help is sub-par and i can modestly say that the customers do most of the work. i soon plan on completely uninstalling everything steam including that new game that came out. and redownloading most of tonight and tomorrow. i say theres a good chance it will still mess up even after that, and if it doesn't probably in the not so distant future.

for steam to have so much control over everything, it should be the most bug free program on the face of the planet. for this glitch to come out of no where...ehh..probably a damn secruity check that glitched out resulting in me not playing. i just hope other developers don't go in this direction either..well if they do which i don't mind, at least make it a very very stable program. hopefully i'll see u guys in overwatch soon. night all
