Hi! Ive just recently signed up here.
Im currently making a mod using HL2 and am here to share ideas and techniques and hopefully learn alot of stuff from the experienced modders!

Im a musician first, and am writing the music and the story for the mod.
Im trying to do an adventure game using the engine.
Nice to meet everyone!

Rob

I'd like to listen some of your music work.

Good music you got there.

Yes I'm into modding for a very long time, I actually have some crazy mod idea for HL2...but I'll wait until I get a decent PC (my PC can barely run Source Engine games).

Hey Rob, I should really sticky what I'm about to say to you so it's handy when I want to reference it.

Before looking to start your own mod:

My biggest piece of advice to a potential modder is JOIN AN EXISTING TEAM..

Here's why.

- You get experience of working with other modders.
- You get to see how a mod is run (right or wrong) and this will help when you do your own.
- You make contacts in the modding world which will be incredibly valuable
- You get to help make something and build a portfolio without having to worry about the details of running the mod
- You stand a better chance of seeing a finished product, hundreds of mods are started a year, each year about 10 are released. That should give you an idea of your mods success out of the gate.

Plus your idea is going to be there in a year when you finish the project you are working on and the experience and knowledge you will have gained will be your largest asset.

Welcome! :D

On communist HL2.net, newcomers welcome US! :P

Ooops, yes you're right, the guest does not welcome... that's just weird!!

Ok, maybe I should have said "salutations!" ;)

Thanks for the advice Zunni, you are most probably right. It's just an ongoing hobby at the moment. About releasing a mod - well, I havent even got that far!! It's just something I piddle about on in my spare time when im bored. Hopefully something will come oif it, but if I feel I need to start craking down and getting stuff done, I think I will follow your advice about joining a mod team, you have certainly given me some thought there!
