Remember the part kind of early in the game, just after you get past the first marine parts, you meet a scientist that tells you to get to the launch complex and launch some rocket because the military aborted the launch, then eventually you do. I don't understand the point of that, why would they want some rocket in space? The scientist mentioned something about the Lambda team meeting it in orbit if they are ever going to get through this mess... but what purpose does it serve? I don't remember a rocket in space having anything to do with porting to Xen and killing Nilihilanth, whats the point?!!!

err did i post this in wrong forum section? :rolling: shizzle...

It was to get the message out of what happened, IIRC

Edit: or not. I really should play Decay, I've had HL for PS2 for awhile now

thats a good question. myabe we will find out in HL2

EDIT* just tell us why! I dont want to spend 20 bux for a stupid 2 player halflife game for a ps2.

Yeah wrong forum, Also the rocket was a satelite that help with the teleportation co-ordinates for Xen IIRC

Is there a Decay mod for the PC?

edit: what does IIRC mean

Ah... once again you have enlightened me :E

edit - off to bed now.

AFAIK it started a counter resonance cascade and it closed portals which stopped crearures like headcrabs and bullsquids (accidentally) teleporting in. Only then does the Nihilanth try to hold open the portals and invade earth. That's why he gets send to Xen to stop the Nihilanth cause he's the only one still holding the portals open.

Yeah, I know the guy who did that website ("Your Evil Twin" FYI), he hasn't updated it in a long long time.

Let's look at the manual first page. It looks like he got his letter on: May 5, 2000(?). Don't know the specific year it looks like they whoever they are, blanked out the last digit.

But does it actually say somewhere that that's the date when the incident ocurred? I'd really like to know because May 16th is my birthday. :D
Someone somewhere said that the rocket launch maight have had something to do with what happens in the uplink demo, can't remember quiet what happens there though because it's been a while.

Didn't that rocket launch with a single push of a button?

This web site is not official so I would not beleive all they are saying.

Yes, but you had to go through those blind tentacle creatures and open the gas and oxygen tanks. :)

no no, not that rocket Ray_man, the rocket you launch after you sneak past the huge explosive trap and hear the marines talking ... "i didnt sign up for this sh*t, who ordered this operation anyway?"

Isnt that the rocket test? Regardless, the rocket was sent up because they needed the radio system or something IIRC.

"Whos this Freeman guy anyway?" "I dont know but i know hes been killing my buddies." :cheese:

I thought the satelite they launched with the rocket helped the human made portals target locations in Xen much better?

No, I'm pretty sure my reply is the right explanation, well.... close anyway :)

It had to do with stopping the spontaneous teleportation of the Xen creatures. Up until this point, it wasn't an organised invasion, all creatures were send in by accident. When Gordon launched the rocket, spontaneous portals stopped appearing. But then the Nihilanth interfered with it and started making portals to invade in an organized fashion. That's why Gordon was send to Xen, and the Lambda scientists refered to 'a single powerful being holding the portals open' or something like that.

Guard: "Freeman, I've been waiting for you. One of your scientist pals
said to give you a message. You're supposed to take this old rail
system up to some kind of satelite delivery rocket. I don't know where
it is exactly, and the old guy was so worried about gettin outta here
alive he didn't tell me. Main thing is, the military aborted the
launch. So, when you do find the rocket, you'll have to get up to the
control and launch it yourself. He said somethin about a Lambda team
needing the satelite in orbit if they were ever gonna clean up this
mess."

Off Topic Question but what is Sven coop?

Sven coop is a pretty cool HL mod that let's you play as a team against AI monsters through player made maps. Basically HL:coop. It's pretty fun, something to do if you are bored...

Here's the website: www.SvenCoop.com

they have alot of made up/speculative crap on that site.

if it wasn't seen or said in HL or by Valve, i'm not taking it as part of the story.

it's all true.. play decay and you'll see. well atleast the Incident page.

what exactly does decay have which explains the story better than HL PC? I assume cutscenes of some sort, but does it have more levels etc.?

A lot of that site seems quite believable, but it claims that the G-Man is the Administrator. Valve has stated that the G-Man is, in fact, not the Administrator. And so I questions his connection with the black ops. And him having some remote teleporter device? Well, if that were the case, then why didn't he easily just teleport around the complex and fetch the info the Black Ops were after. After all, isn't he in league with them?

And what about his awkward speech and mannerisms?

Well written, but there are some holes.

The plot on the Incident page is pretty much correct, apart from, as people have mentioned, the references to the gman. It does say somewhere on the site that because there is no information about him, he made up some background information and motivations and such. So take any mentions of the gman and his motives as speculation, but the rest is a pretty good summary of events.

As you can see, HL by itself doesn't really have that great a storyline (a lot of the details come from decay, blueshift and opfor), but when placed in context with the others it is really quite interesting and clever.

This was also written long before we found out that the gman is not the administrator - from all appearances in HL1, he is, however.

Well, I personally never considered him to be the Administrator. Crossed my mind once or twice, but it never stuck.

But yes, the site does do a great job of interweving the stories from all the games and showing how they all affected each other. If you want a good summary of the events that took place, be sure to check it out.
