I don't know what level this is on, but at one point in city 17 u see some civilians pulling down a huge tv screen of breen or something and then they cheer after it's down. When I saw this I got a flash back of watching the Iraqi people do that to the statue of Sadam. Did anyone else think about this?

hm...no, it didn't remind me of saddam..but you're right, in both cases people are tearing down symbols of a regime.
maybe it was inspired by iraq, maybe it wasn't.

I liked the falling TV screen and seem to remember a VERY large tower falling in front of you at one point (i think it was in water hazard), it looked awesome to me. I found myself trying to avoid it in my chair.

well, there have been other instances of this in the world before (for example, the Berlin Wall), but it might just be a general scene put in the game without any specific influence... i dont remember that scene but i kind of rushed through the game, im going to beat it a lot slower this time (i beat it the first time in like 12 hours or something, over a period of 2 days)

Yeah, stuff like that isn't unique to the war in Iraq.

Tearing down symbols of power has been a staple of resistance movements for a looooong time.

Except the civilians in the game aren't part of a cheesy (though effective) psyops ploy. But this is possibly for a different forum .

Many Iraqis have come forth to say that the Arabs shown to us in those images did not have Iraqi accents… but who to believe these days… *sigh* Somebody is lying… and whoever that is needs to understand that the ends (no matter how much they believe in them) do not justify the means. I hope an argument doesn’t brew here…

i do believe that many iraqis hated saddam and wanted him gone- i dont believe non iraqi arabs were 'bussed in' as the term is used, just for the cameras.

when it comes to war reporting though, the press is very much under govmt control....

If you’re interested in seeing how real Iraqis feel about the occupation you should rent the documentary Control Room. It should be available in most video stores. You don’t have to agree with their positions but it is still very informative to hear their points of view and to better understand how they formulate them. It focuses on the role Al Jazeera plays as the undisputed media king of the region.
