HL2 Awesome game- discovered one critical glitch

Hey guys, I'm fairly new here. Just wanted to say I never beat the original HL, but I got HL2 and I LOOOVVEEE it. Best FPS ever played, and ever known to exist. I beat it on easy in approximately 10 hours, I was rushing because I am in competition with my friends. I plan on playing the game in Hard mode starting tomorow and really taking my time.

Anyway, I noticed one critical glitch that forced me to restart from an earlier save point. This is potentially a spoiler, and I dont know how to do the spoiler tag so beware.

Ok, in the later part of the game (chapter 11 or 12 I believe) after you rescue Barney from the Snipers, you have to disable the 3 generators in the mansion. I was in the room with all the motion sensor RED lasers that activated the ceiling-mounted turrets. At first I didnt know how to get through so I experimented with the lasers. If you touch them, it is instant death because you cannot barricade yourself, destroy the lasers, or escape the room.

Heres the glitch: I picked up a picture with the manipulator (call it whatever you like) and stood OUTSIDE the room, then threw the picture at the laser. The motion trigger immediately sealed the door, permanently. Took me a good 30 minutes to realize there was no other way to get to that generator. I had to reload from the earliest autosave from that point.

Just wanted to warn you guys about that!

same here too, ripped a picture off the wall in that room and sent it through a laser.

thats crazy, i guess none of valve playtesters did that, yet many of us here did. maybe valve should have some of us playtest their next game, heh

heh, I found another one really early on. In my second time through I decided to mess with all kindsa of stuff anf see what I can get into/find etc. Right after the part where barney first talks to you and you go into the station just before entering the plaza, there are 2 guards posted close to the food rationing thingy. (basicly old Box office still ticket lines. On the gate to the immediate left of the lines there is a gaurd. I tried to get him to move to see if I could open the fence behind him. Well I got him to chase me then I tried to manipulate the gate and of course he commensed smaking me with his glow rod thingy. Now at this point in the game you still take no damage but what happend was he knocked me between him and the fence. Then he got so close that there was no way to squirm free. He then commensed beating me for then next 15 minutes while I tired to get out of the way but to no avail. I was truly stuck. Not really a big deal just reload it and everything is fine.

Also somthing to note. When you finish the game you can Start over, not just from the begining but from any chapter you wish which is kinda cool.

oh yea, its not a glitch, but its neato, you can kill barney if you turn on cheats and get a weapon, and kill him before he takes his mask. kinda funny because you can't kill friendlies at all even with cheats(as far as i know) but you can kill barney there cause the game treats him like a combine. of course the cutscene never happens and the game wont progress.
