HL2 Ending: Retake

One problem, that area was getting eaten by the citidel.

Awesome idea!
Main gripes are: 1:Teh crowbar, wtf? why not use the ingame model of it? This looks like a crappy knock off of the original crowbar.
2nd: The explosion indeed happened at the top, so thus it would look much better/realistic higher up.
3rd: That propaganda screen was taken down by the resistance! :(

I very much like this idea though! The g-man is definatly a nice touch there. Would be quite freaky to see that on all the monitors right before the explosion.
What would be even weirder would be something like a 3rd perspective of Alyx, G-man and Gordon being blown back(Minus G-man of course), asif it was being broadcasted everywhere as the final momments
Then again, the G-man did seem like he wouldnt have been there if another person was watching.

Just my 2 cents :D

indeed though i wasnt really going for accuracy, just some feeling :frog: saw someone photoshop another pic so had a sudden urge, got a screenshot off ign (with ign rubbed off haha) and the crowbar is actually from HL1. hmm mebbe should play around with the modeler, wanted to do that third person thingie actually.

and since gordon loses his Hev and crowbar after each HL, i guess its not that inaccurate ;)

Good work, lets finish this off by pulling it all together.
1. The area was being distroyed, yours does not show it to be that way.
2. The explosion was at the top, not the middle.
3. Crowbar was distroyed along with other weapons.
4. That screen was taken down. How could you miss that?
5. It was sunset.
6. The "onion skinning" effect behind the crowbar showing it's motion shows it not spinning or rotating enough.

Nice try Dench, did you use Microsoft Paint or something?

I don't see you making anything.

Also, care to notice how you can't see the top of the citadel from C17? How could he have done it otherwise?

You should also take note on what R3ality was trying to do: be clever. The crowbar flying out of the final explosion is a very nice touch, as it is the "hallmark" weapon of the game, and the smirking Gman hints at his strange all knowing presence throughout the course of the story.

I don't see you being very clever at all: infact, you're just acting like an ass, and a stupid one at that. Do you know, for a fact that the other weapons couldn't have survived the explosion? Do you know the exact size and the nature of the explosion, and the location of the weapons at the time of the blast? Who's to say the Gman didn't take them? Who's to say that the crowbar would be spinning at a faster rotation than the one suggested by R3ality? Your critique of his pic is just as unthoughtful as the "flaws" of the pic you tried to point out.

I hate to go on like that, but your comment certainly warranted a far stronger post than the one I'm providing,

lol Quelaar, hey man, thnx for getting exactly what i was goin for but his criticism is ok imo, just that he focussed on the factual innacuracies of the pic overlooking the thought behind it, perhaps i should have put up a disclaimer first haha. although considering how little any of us know about the rules of the HL universe, pretty much anything seems possible.

Nothing is wrong with criticism, but unfounded and hateful criticism has no place in a decent conversation.

thats a cool picture!

Probably the intro for HL3. Joe Civilian was walking to his precint, until the holy crowbar fell from the sky and into his hands. "God chose me!" he says. Chose him to save the world! Buy HL3 now!

Hey man, I dont want to sound like an arse here, but the only hatefulness I found in this whole thread is from you :(
I didint see any hate from Jeftt, just pointing out the little things as R3ality stated.
I'm a CGI artist myself, I deal with alot of the same thing and his(Jefft's) post was a-okay in my book, he didint make any personal attacks at the artist nor did he put the art down. He just simply stated his criticism.

You on the otherhand took the maters into your own hands and took personal offense at something which had nothing to do with you nor did it need to be taken as offense. If anyone would be offended here it would be R3ality, however he, like myself, agrees that its just him pointing out some inaccuracies.

All in all, its a great attempt at an execution of a original idea. I'd use it as a wallpapper in a heartbeat if I didint already have it as G-man walking through the door into the white room from the warp slip.

Just my 2 cents.

agree jeffft could have used some more tact but no biggie, ...back to topic, anyone got a pic of a worried gman holding a microphone and looking behind him? haha need it for the next pic :)

alix: care to post the wallpaper? shld be interesting.

Sorry if I came off as very strong Alix, but I read jefft's post as mean.

the "how could you miss that?" remark, and the MS Paint joke crossed the line, IMO.

I should just drop it.

Sorry if I spoiled the thread :( :o And sorry jefft if I misinterpreted your intentions.

Sure!
Though, its pretty simple. I took a picture of the ending shot of the game, then edited up to make it slightly more cinematic.
I like it personaly for its simplicity and how its not allover the place :).

First one being what it looks like on my desktop.
Second being the actual wallpapper itself.

I thought it was pretty cool, despite some tiny errors nobody should care about.

To make it even better, I think having some Resistance and Combine looking like they've just been furiously fighting stopping to look at the explosion would be cool.
